If you are using Chinese ROM on your Xiaomi device or you have imported your device from Chinese resellers like AliExpress or GearBest, the moment you set up your phone you will notice that The Google Play Store along with all other Google services will be missing from the device. These devices have the Chinese App Store and all apps are in foreign languages.
There is no limit to downloading APK files and installing apps manually or by installing another app store like Amazon, but not just the Play Store. It’s about Google services like contacts, location, games that keep data in sync and also ensure that apps and other data are always up to date on your device. So let’s see how you can install them without root access.
Install Play Store and Google Play Services
Step 1: Open it up App Store on your MIUI Android phone and search for Google. A small purple-blue icon will pop up with DU written on it. I’m not sure what that DU means, but tapping it will list some Google-related apps on your screen.
Step 2: Here, tap on the first app you see and install it to your device. This app is basically a container app for all other Google apps and services. When you launch it, it will be in Chinese. On the app, tap the button in the middle and it will start installing apps related to Google services. If this is your first time installing any app manually, you will have to grant Unknown source license inside Protect setting.
Step 3: Now let all apps be installed and once done don’t launch Play Store right away. We’ll have to manually update the two apps to the latest version so you can download and update them. To accomplish that, download these two files (Link 1, Link 2) and then save to the internal storage of your MIUI device.
Step 4: Now open the File Explorer application and install these two applications in turn on the phone. Please note that before you install these apps, do not open any Google apps nor configure your Google account.
Step 5: Once all the apps are installed, open the Google Play Store and you will be asked to enter your Google account credentials and set up various permissions. Once the Play Store is set up, the Play Store may update Google Play Services in the background, so I recommend leaving your phone idle for a few minutes.
That’s it, you can now install and update apps from the Play Store, and enjoy other services like Contacts, Calendar, and Google Photos. This method won’t install apps like Maps, Gmail, Keep, and others related to Google, and these must be installed manually from the Play Store.
Note:
Conclusion
So that’s how you can install Google Play Services, Play Store and Gapps on MIUI China ROM. Now talking about MIUI 8, there are a lot of features that come along and we have highlighted in a separate article.
