If you regularly create forms and questions on Google Forms, you must be aware of the difficulty of adding the same questions and answers over and over again. That process is monotonous and time consuming to perform the same set of tasks periodically. Thankfully, there’s a nifty workaround. Yes, Google Forms now allows you to import questions from your old forms.
There is more to this story. Google Forms not only allows you to enter questions, but you can also choose which questions to enter and which to discard. Overall, it’s a very convenient feature.
So, if you’re looking for a way to make the process of creating quizzes and questions in Google Forms a little easier, here’s how.
Start.
How to enter questions into Google Form easily
Step 1: Open a new form. After deciding on a name and title and adding preliminary questions, tap the Enter button from the menu.
All your old forms will be displayed.
Select the form you want to enter and all the questions will appear on the right panel.
Step 2: Next, select the question that you want to add to your existing form and click the Enter question button. If you want them all, the checkbox at the top will do the trick.
Click the Change form button if you want to modify your form selection.
Step 3: Once done, repeat the same process if you have to add questions from another form.
Google Forms remembers previous form selections, and that’s smart. So if you happen to pick up a single, you can find it right under the Previously Selected tab.
Otherwise, you cannot select multiple forms at once. However, it’s better than the old add and select method.
Probably, one of the best things that I like about the new Import feature is that the validations are also entered with the questions.
That saves a lot of time.
How to improve this method
While the option to select questions from multiple old forms is pretty cool, I have a slightly improved workaround.
I put all the frequently asked questions under a single form with basic confirmations instead of selecting and opening multiple forms.
You may want to organize them by subject so that it’s easy to pick them up later.
Once done, give it a recognizable name.
Save it and pin it, so that whenever you have to edit it, you don’t have to search the gallery.
The next time you need to enter a question into a new form, you know what to do. The previously selected Forms tab is the most prominent.
How to import questions from Docs into Google Forms
Importing questions from previously created forms is not the only option available. If you have a Microsoft Word or Google Doc document filled with questions, you can use it to create a form.
Of course, things won’t be as easy as drag and drop. However, it defeats the process of manually entering questions and selecting answers.
To do so, you will need the help of an Add-on called Doc to Form. It’s free for now, and the form creation process is simple as well.
Step 1: For that, open a new document and navigate to the Add-ons button > Get Add-ons.
Here, you will be led to the market. Search and add said add-on.
Step 2: Then, click the Add-on button and select Doc to From > Create Form from Doc. Since this add-on is primarily designed with school teachers in mind, you’ll see the option to add the teacher’s name and name on the form.
However, these are options and you can uncheck the boxes if you want.
Step 3: Next, select the text on the Doc that you want to add and click the Use Selected Text option.
After doing that, you will have to choose the question type. Click on the one that best suits your requirements, and that’s about it. There, a question is created.
You have to repeat that for all other questions on your list and click the Create Form button.
Please note that the generated form does not have any validation. So you’ll have to take care of that.
Convert Word files to Google Docs
If your question document is in the form of an MS Word document, it can also be converted.
On your Google Drive home page, click the Settings icon in the upper right corner.
Next, check the box for the ‘Convert uploaded files to Google Docs editor format’ option.
Then you can upload Word files without worrying about formatting issues.
Create awesome forms
That’s how you can import questions from the old form to the new form. This method not only saves time but also makes the work less monotonous.
Just remember to select the appropriate section while you type and you’ll be sorted. After all, you wouldn’t want to waste time rearranging questions, would you?
