How to Get Samsung-like Edge Display on Any Smartphone

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8, one thing that caught the attention of many was the Infinity display and the Edge apps that adorn it. However, upgrading to this premium segment phone is easier said than done. Until then, how about we bring the Samsung Edge display to your Android?

The Android market is filled with tons of useful apps and games, and trust me, most of the time, the variety amazes me.

One day, while checking out some new apps, I came across this app called Swiftly Switch. This application promises not only to make the edge of the phone more useful, but also to help reduce the time we spend searching for apps.

And what’s more, you can enjoy the full beauty of Android wallpapers without apps cluttering up your screen. So let’s quickly have an overview of the application.

Quick Switch – Sidebar Apps

Swiftly Switch is a relatively new sidebar app that lets you customize the edges of your phone screen. So whether you’re looking for an app shortcut or speed dialing a contact, everything is taken care of by this nifty app.

What makes it my personal favorite is that the Swiftly Switch is lightweight and completely easy to use. The application takes multitasking to the next level with diverse actions and shortcuts. In short, you can get pretty much done under the sun just use your thumb.

Swiftly Switch is free to install from the PlayStore with the option to upgrade to the Pro version. Upgrading will cost you 89 INR ($1.37) per item.

Swiftly Switch has quite a few modes like Recent Apps, Quick Actions, Grid Favorites, and Circle Favorites. Also, there is a mode called Blacklist where, as the name suggests, you can set an app name that won’t appear in the recent apps list (on the edge).

Users can only enable a specific combination of modes including

  • Recent Apps and Quick Actions
  • Circle Quick Actions and Favorites
  • Favorite grid.

Recent apps and favorite circles appear as semi-circles at the edges. While the quick action forms an outer concentric circle on the circle’s favorites, if you want to select a box full of apps, the grid box feature will do the trick.

Actions and shortcuts

Depending on the combination you’ve chosen, all you have to do is tap the mode and set a shortcut for the app. Well, recent apps mode doesn’t quite give you the independence to do that.

Anyway, most new devices these days have recent apps to handle it. If you ask me, the best combination is Favorite Circle and Quick Action.

Just tap Favorites in Circles and choose apps you visit frequently. It gives you the option to choose seven apps which is quite enough. Once that’s done, choose quick actions.

The beauty of Quick Actions is that you can choose additional apps, choose to dial a contact (speed dial, anyone?) or choose an action like ‘take a screenshot’ or choose to enable /turn off Wi-Fi.

I have set up my Xiaomi Redmi 4 to Circle of Favorites and Quick Actions. Favorites in the circle have apps like Facebook, Instagram, and Google Photos, while in the Quick Actions menu the first action is speed dialing for my husband. Other actions include expanding the notification drawer or switching to the last opened app.

Well, there’s a whole world of action to choose from. For phones with larger screens, opening the notification shade is quite handy because users don’t have to go all the way to the status bar.

custom

Most of the settings can be customized. For instance, you can set the keyboard not to interfere when Swiftly is launched. Furthermore, the sensitivity of the trigger can also be adjusted along with the color and position.

In addition to app actions and shortcuts, you can choose to create more than one circle and switch between the two depending on your needs.

Speaking of keyboards, here’s a comparison between Gboard and SwiftKey.

valuation

Most of the features are easily accessible in the free version. However, if you want to customize both edges, you have to shell out a few dollars for that.

In addition, some customization options for the grid box such as the number of columns and rows are locked. If you are a regular user, the free version is enough.

Last words

Swiftly Switch is a nifty app that makes multitasking as easy as 1-2-3. And what makes it a notch higher is that edge apps can be called from within any app. So have you started using it yet?
