Now, let me ask you two questions. During that process, do you ever forget where you started? Did you also lose an interesting result you saw somewhere on the Google results page and decided to check it out a little later, only to come back and realize you couldn’t find it? This can happen because you used the same browser window and tab for the entire session.
That’s why I get in the habit of using new tabs every time. I close the ones I don’t need and so I leave the aggregated results at the end. There is a mouse trick that helps you open all the links in a new tab and you always have the option to right click. But we will make our machine remember this for us.

Set Firefox’s Search Box to show results in a new tab
Well, when we type a query in the search bar of the browser, we tend to hit enter causing the results to show up on the same tab. If you press Alt + Enter instead, the results will open in a new tab. But we don’t always remember to do it. Don’t worry, Firefox will remember it for us.
Step 1: Open the Firefox tab and type about:config in its address bar. Fight Enter.
Step 2: You will be shown a warning message. That’s nothing to worry about and you can click I will be careful button.
Step 3: On the preferences window, search for browser.search.openintab. You will only see one option for the results.
Step 4: Double click on the false value to change it to true. That’s it! The next time you search in your browser’s search bar, the results will show up in a new tab.
Open Google results in a new tab
The above setup ensures that your query results in the launch of a new tab. How about taking it forward from there? Clicking on a resulting link is likely to open it on the same tab. Let’s change that behavior too and let us do it for Google since that’s what most of us use.
Step 1: Sign in to your Google account and navigate to Search settings window.
Step 2: Scroll to the currently reading section Where to open results and put a check on new browser window options below it.
Step 3: Don’t forget to scroll down and click Save. That’s it! Click on a result and it will open in a new tab.
