The Lunar New Year 2024 event introduces heaps of exciting content to Pokemon GO, including the debut of a brand-new Pokemon, Drampa.
Drampa is a Normal/Dragon-type Pokemon from Alola, and while the Placid Pokemon is generally kind and sweet, it’s protective of the ones it loves. Without further ado, let’s review how you can get Drampa and if the game’s latest addition can be Shiny!
How to catch Drampa in Pokemon GO
During the Lunar New Year event, you can encounter Drampa as a 3-Star Raid Boss, as a Field Research reward, or as a Timed Research reward.
If you’re going to take on Drampa as a Raid Boss, know that it’s vulnerable to Dragon, Fairy, Fighting, and Ice-type attacks. If you have a team of powered-up counters with good movesets, you might be able to defeat this Raid Boss by yourself.

If you want to encounter Drampa by completing Field Research tasks, the one you’re looking for is ‘Win 3 Raids’, although this can also lead to an encounter with Druddigon or Turtonator instead, so you’re not guaranteed to find one this way.
Your final option is to complete the Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed Timed Research, which leads to a guaranteed Drampa encounter. This is a paid-for Timed Research ticket, though, so it’s up to you whether or not that’s worth the cost.
For now, there’s no telling if Drampa will remain available after the Lunar New Year event ends on Sunday, February 11, 2024. If it does, the chances are it will be a very rare Pokemon to catch.
Can Drampa be Shiny in Pokemon GO?

Yes, Drampa can be Shiny in Pokemon GO! Niantic rarely releases the Shiny variant simultaneously with the debut of a new Pokemon, but the devs are making an exception with Drampa.
Shiny Drampa is a beaut, with a lovely golden colour scheme, so keep an eye out for it!
Can you evolve Drampa in Pokemon GO?
Drampa is part of a one-stage family, so no, you can’t evolve this unique Pokemon.
That’s everything you need to know about the debut of Drampa in Pokemon GO. Initially discovered in Gen 7, the Alola native will make its first appearance in Pokemon GO on February 5, 2024. If you’re lucky, you might even stumble across Shiny Drampa!
