How to Fix Overwatch 2 Update Stuck on Initializing

Is your Overwatch 2 update stuck on launch?

This happens if there is a new season and you need to update the game.

However, the game may fail to update because it cannot pass the initialization phase.

Your update speed may be 300 KB/s, 200 KB/s, 100 KB/s or even lower even though your internet speed is fast.

I had this problem myself and it took a few hours before I found a fix.

Before that, I tried deleting Battle.net, reinstalling it, and connecting to a VPN to no avail.

In this guide, you will learn how to fix Overwatch 2 update stuck on launching at 0% or updating at KB/s.

How to fix Overwatch 2 Update stuck on initialization

To fix Overwatch 2 update stuck on initialization, you need to change your region (e.g. from Asia to Americas).

You can also try disabling “Limit Download Bandwidth”, resetting your network, or disabling all non-Microsoft services.

Fix 1: Change your region

  1. Open Battle.net and select “Overwatch 2”.
  2. Click the globe icon.
  3. Switch to a different region (for example, from Asia to the Americas).
  4. Overwatch 2 update.

Editor’s Note: I fixed the launch failure with this method after hours of troubleshooting.

As soon as I switched to another region, Overwatch 2 went from 0% to 100% in less than a minute.

Once the game is updated, you can return to your original region.
