How to Fix OnePlus 3 or 3T Battery Drain Problem

Not all Android updates improve your device performance and bring new content. And the recent Android Nougat update on OnePlus 3 and 3T devices proves this. Now, if you haven’t updated your device yet, here’s a summary of what happened when I updated both of my devices just hours after the update was made available.

At first, everything was nice and hearty with lots of new features; but then I realized that the option to show battery percentage in the status bar was gone. This option is even missing from the hidden settings of the system UI tuner.

Well, I can live with that using a third party app. But then, when I woke up the next day and to my horror, the battery was at 90% drained down to 6%, even though the phone was always working ideally.

So the next obvious thing is to find a solution to the perfect battery life, which we all want. The solution we are presenting here has been tried and tested on both devices. And it works!

Also, for your convenience, we have created a YouTube video showing the steps. Check it out.

Tip #1: Easy but inconvenient

So here is what I did. Initially, I checked for battery draining apps by going to Settings > Battery. If Android OS & Android System are the main culprits of battery drain, then you are lucky as we have found the solution and to solve it you can go directly to Tip #2

However, if that’s not the case, you can try to uninstall apps that are draining more power, or you can try the stripped-down version, if available.

For example, if Facebook is the main culprit, you can install the FB Lite version. Another possible culprit is one of the video players and their brightness settings.

I know, I know, replacing the main apps with their minified versions or uninstalling them is not a convenient solution but if the battery drain issue is too big for you then you may have to bite. teeth suffer here.

Tip #2: A bit inconvenient

Assume that Android operating system and Android system To be the main culprit for battery drain, probably due to the backup the device is trying to make on Google’s servers. These backups keep your device CPU ABOVE during the process and thus your phone is never idle, resulting in significant battery drain.

So, in order to have everything in order, the next thing to do is to disable the Backup & Reset option in Settings.

When enabled, this setting periodically backs up all device data and app data to your configured account.

This data can be anything like Wi-Fi passwords, call history, photos, text messages, app and file settings etc. So if you are willing to exchange this data with battery life, turning it off would be the right thing to do.

You can still schedule a day where you let your phone charge overnight and turn on backups at that time. So there’s basically a bit of manual work done on your part here. Slightly inconvenient and can help with battery drain issues.

Tip #3: Don’t be too inconvenient

Once that’s done, it’s time to give Google Play services a fresh start. All you need to do now is go to Settings > Apps and tap Google Play Services.

Once in, tap Memory > Space Managemente then tap Erase all data.

The data you deleted is automatically rebuilt when you operate Google Play and other Google related apps.

Conclusion

So here are the things that helped me increase the battery life of both devices – OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, back to normal after the Nougat update. These do not harm any built-in settings and hopefully they will help you, like they did to me.
