How To Fix Galaxy S5’s Biggest Problems And Annoyances

Everyone has problems. Even the most innovative, advanced and complex software. That is why there is a security hack in a large company every week. Even iOS 7 has no problem. The error has resulted in some phones rebooting randomly.

Samsung Galaxy S5 and TouchWiz are no different. Although, if I’m being honest, the S5 is a bit ahead of the other blunders. TouchWiz 5 is the largest, most feature-rich version of TouchWiz. That means also a lot of stuff like bloatware, unnecessary features, and redesigns that no one really asked for.

Some of these problems we can actually solve in minutes. Here is a list of all the things you can do to make your S5 experience so much better.

Gestures off

With the S4, Samsung released a lot of air and motion gestures and most of them were meaningless. Samsung has cut down on the number of gestures in the S5 but most of them are still there. And they’re also annoying and not really helpful.

Go Setting -> Movements and gestures and turn off anything you don’t need. One neat gesture, however, is to take a screenshot by swiping your palm across the screen. But turning off these gestures can also help improve battery life.

Lag Care

Galaxy S5 is equipped with Snapdragon 801 processor and 2 GB RAM. That should translate to incredible performance but thanks to TouchWiz, that’s not always the case.

TouchWiz in the S5 is the fastest I’ve seen but it’s still not as fast as vanilla Android on the Nexus 5 or even Sense on the HTC One M8.

The point is, the S5 is fast but the software and some unnecessary features are limiting its potential. If you want to get the beast out, take some of the steps listed below.

Turn off forwarding

Just like iOS 7, TouchWiz 5 has added some smooth transitions. They look good, but that means you’ll have to wait longer to get where you need to be.

Go About the device IN Setting and click Build number in 7 times. This will unlock Developer Options. Go in there and press Transition animation scale and turn it off.

If turning off transitions completely is too jarring for you, try toning down.

Fix Delayed Home Button Error

Not only is S Voice unnecessary, but it also makes accessing the home screen slower. S Voice is launched by double tapping the home key. So every time you press the home key, TouchWiz will listen and wait to check if there is a second press. It will take you to the home screen only after a delay.

Launch S Voice, tap the three-dot menu button at the top, and go to Setting. Now uncheck the option Open with home key. Now, tapping the home button will take you to the home screen immediately.

Replace the Launcher with something better

Nowhere is TouchWiz’s clunky nature more prominent than the launcher. You have unnecessary widgets, square icons and not to mention, “My Journal” on the far left.

I don’t feel like it but a lot of users are reporting that the launcher slows down from time to time. If that’s your case then just replace the launcher with something better. For best performance, use Nova Launcher. It gives you great speed and performance. TouchWiz launcher replacement will also help you launch apps faster and customize your home screen experience.

Nova lets you add different icon packs to make your home screen better, and it even supports gestures to help you be more productive. If you like the look of the Google Now Launcher in Nexus 5 with its large icons and thin fonts, try KK Launcher to recreate the experience.

Camera lag

The Galaxy S5 has one of the best cameras on the smartphone market today. But Samsung, being Samsung added a mode that is enabled by default which makes the camera really slow.

The S5 Camera app has image stabilization enabled by default. This feature is useful if you’re using it on the go or on bumpy roads but isn’t necessary for everyday use. Also, when using this mode, you need to hold the camera still for a few seconds after pressing the shutter icon. This takes away the versatility of the camera.

Open the app, tap the gear icon to go into settings and make sure that Image Stabilization mode is off.

So are you a Galaxy S5 user? How is your experience so far?
