How to Edit Share Sheet on iPhone

The iOS Share Sheet provides a convenient way to share information via messaging, social networking apps, and email. It also gives you access to contextual actions like printing documents to PDF, saving images, copying links and even running shortcuts. However, with so many options, the Share Sheet also becomes cramped.

How to edit Share Sheet on iPhone

The first row of the iOS Share Sheet shows you recently used contacts to let you share files with them quickly. This row is not editable and will automatically change based on your call and message history. The contacts you’ve recently contacted show up as quick share shortcuts, and there’s no way to change this behavior.

This post will demonstrate how to edit the Share Sheet on iPhone just to show relevant options. While the iOS Share Sheet is accessible from some apps, we’re using Safari in this post.

Add apps to favorites

Below the recent contacts list, you’ll see a list of apps that you can use to share files from your iPhone. The first three apps on the list, namely AirDrop, Messages, and Mail are always there, while the rest cycle through depending on your recent usage.

iOS allows you to change this behavior by adding apps to your favorites list. Apps that you add to favorites always appear first in the Share Sheet. They will continue to appear there unless deleted.

Step 1: Launch any app that supports Share Sheet functionality like Photos, Safari, etc.

Launch Safari

Step 2: If you’re also using Safari, open any web page and tap the Share button in the middle at the bottom of the screen.

Remove apps from favorites

AirDrop, Messages, and Mail appear by default as Favorites in the Share Sheet. While you can’t remove AirDrop from the list, you can delete or rearrange the remaining two apps and replace them with the app you want. For example, if you don’t use Mail as the default email app on your iPhone, you can replace it with any email client of your choice.

Step 1: Launch the Safari (or Photos) app on your iPhone and open a web page.

Launch Safari

Step 2: Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.

tap the share icon

Step 3: Swipe from right to left on the Apps row until you reach the end.

Step 2: Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.

Edit action on share page

In addition to apps, Share Sheet also shows you some contextual actions. Note that some actions may vary depending on the application you are using to invoke the Share Sheet. For example, when you use the Share Sheet to share a photo, you’ll see the action of setting that photo as your wallpaper, which won’t happen when you use the Share Sheet on Safari.

So you will have to repeat this process for each type of application. Although time consuming, this is not a big deal as the steps will be the same and only the actions you see will be different.
