How to Easily Remove Bloatware from Your Android Device – Guiding Tech

Android bloat

You buy a brand new smartphone or tablet that only advertises X amount of storage to find that it actually has about a third of that space left.

Problem? While some space is lost due to system files and native formatting, bloatware can also take up extra space on your device.

What exactly is bloatware? In short, it’s any bundled software that comes with your Android device that isn’t necessary to use your phone or tablet.

If you buy a subsidized phone or tablet, bloat comes in two forms: carrier-provided bloat and manufacturer-provided bloat.

To be fair, not all pre-installed apps are bad. Some manufacturer software can be helpful, but if you find that you never use any of these bundled apps, why not reclaim space? This is especially important with low-cost devices, as they may initially advertise only 2-8GB of space, but you end up with even less than that.

So what can you do? In fact, removing bloat is easy, but you’ll need a rooted device to do it.

For those who don’t have a rooted device

Before you decide if rooting is right for you, check out this list of pros and cons regarding rooting.

If you decide to go ahead with it, go to a search engine like Google and type something like “how to root Samsung Galaxy S3” (change S3 to whatever phone/tablet you have).

Once you’ve gained root access, you’ll be ready to move on to the next part of this tutorial.

Step 3: Now you are in! You will notice several options listed here.

System Apps – This gives you a complete list of all the pre-installed apps. Some of these are necessary for your device to run properly, so be careful when playing around here.

Disabled Apps – This list will contain any apps that you have temporarily disabled. Disabling an app is ideal when you’re not sure if it’s important to your Android device.

Backed up apps – When you delete an app, you can choose to back it up, the No Bloat app will put a smaller (compressed) backup file in this list.

Get the full version! – If you are looking for more advanced functionality, No Bloat also has a paid version for $1.99. However, in most cases, the Free version is more than enough.

Step 4: To get started, go ahead and enter System application. You’ll be presented with a list of apps, so go ahead and choose one – preferably the one you’re sure you don’t need.

Step 5: For the purposes of this tutorial, we clicked Google Talk application. As you will see below, a new pop-up window appears with several options.

If you know what the app is and are sure it’s not needed, you can always delete it with a backup – or even without.

Want to see if it’s an essential application or system file? You can always disable it. Final, Support very useful if you want to backup in case files/applications get corrupted.

Once you have decided how you want to handle the application, check the option box of your choice and press Okay. Repeat this process for all the apps you want to disable/remove.

Optional: Accidentally deleted something important? If you have it turned off, go to Disable the app options from the main menu. Tap on the disabled app and you will see the screen below:

Simply tag Allow box, hit Alright, and now the app will work again. A similar process exists if you’ve deleted an app but want to return it from a backup.

Conclusion

That’s basically it! After repeating the process, you’ll not only have less clutter in your device’s app drawer, but you’ll also have significantly more free space on your device.

As always, if you’re unsure about an app’s functionality, make sure to disable it first, not remove it completely.

How do you feel about No Bloat Free? Did it do everything you had hoped it would? Any other flatulence removal apps that you think are worth mentioning? Let us and our readers know in the comments below.
