So let’s say you have two ringtones, one for Star Wars and the other for Back to the Future’s theme song. It won’t be difficult to decide which ringtone to choose. Especially as we celebrate Back to the Future day on October 21, 2015, I wanted to keep the latter as my ringtone. But then the Imperial March theme I got from Star Wars is hard to let go of.
Randomize your ringtone on Android | shutter
Even if you’re not a Sci-Fi fan, there’s bound to be a time when you have more than one personal favorite and want it as your ringtone. So it’s the red or blue pill and the decision can be tough. But what if I told you that you take both pills? And yes, the pill is meant to be the ringtone you install on your Android. It would be great, wouldn’t it?!
So today I’m going to talk about a brand new app called RandTune with which you can easily randomize ringtones and notification tones on your phone. Moreover, there is no need to have root access on your Android. The trick works on any Android phone.
Using RandTune on Android
Before you install the app, gather all the tones you want to randomly generate on your phone and import them into a folder. If you also want to randomize the notifications, create a separate folder for that and save it to the home folder of your device’s internal memory.
Bonus: Here’s a link to awesome Star Wars fan-made ringtones and notifications that you can download. For Back to the Future, I couldn’t find a suitable theme tune so I made one myself that you can download from your OneDrive Page.
Once that’s done, download and install RandTune on your Android. The application page will be divided into two sections and dedicated to ringtones and notification tones respectively. So now all you need to do is add the folder where you saved your tones. The app has a button to import individual tones, but it didn’t work for me and so I recommend you to save all tones in one folder.
As soon as you import the ringtone into the app, you can use it right away. The tones will be randomly selected from the next call you receive. You can do the same in the notification tab to randomize the notification sound.
There is a button at the top with which you can easily close the app. The only thing to be careful about here is that the app will overwrite any contact specific tone you’ve selected as long as it’s on.

Waiting for future updates
The application is quite simple to use and there are not many options to configure it right now. But it’s a good start. I’d love to see options where I can choose how many times each ringtone is played before the app changes.
There are some apps in the Play Store that generate random ringtones, but most of them haven’t been updated in a while. Hope this breaks the trend.
