Using the Group Policy Editor
Using the Group Policy Editor, you can disable web search results from the Start menu. This solution will not work for users of Windows 11 Home edition. Follow the steps below.
Step 1: Right-click the Windows button and select Run. You can also use the Windows + R keys to access it.
Step 2: Enter gpedit.msc and click OK at the bottom.
Step 3: The system will open the Local Group Policy Editor application.
Go to the following path in the application – User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer.
You need to double-click Windows Components from the left sidebar to expand the menu.
Step 4: Once you have entered the File Explorer menu, locate ‘Disable the display of recent searches in File Explorer.’
Step 5: Double-click it. This will open a pop-up menu to make changes.
Step 6: Click Enabled and press the Apply button in the bottom right corner of the window.
Restart your computer and try using the Start menu search. You won’t see unrelated web searches.
Enable SafeSearch in the Start Menu
When you turn off web search in the Windows 11 Start menu, you also lose features like the ability to translate words and convert currencies.
Many people disable web search in the Start menu to prevent their children from accidentally showing adult search results on the web. Windows provides an option to enable a filter that removes adult results. This is the way.
