The Windows command prompt is not something the average user is used to these days. In fact, he has never done so since the advent of Graphical User Interfaces or GUI (reading mouse pointers and icons). However, there are still many ways to use the quick interface and

However, I personally feel that the default window and settings of the command prompt are not very easy to use. If you are someone who regularly uses the same thing, you should consider customizing it to your needs and comfort. That is exactly what we are going to explain in this article today.
Begin
There are many ways to display custom windows and each has its own meaning.
On any open instance, click the control icon (top left of the window) and select Property. The changes here apply only to the current window. If you choose Default the settings will be saved for future versions except the current one.
If you want to apply changes to a specific shortcut, right click and show Property. As a result, the setting will only apply to that particular shortcut. This also means that you can apply different settings to different keyboard shortcuts.
There are things like window size, buffer size, colors and fonts that are easily modifiable. Let us examine them and understand the behavior associated with each of them.
Window layout and size
I consider this the most important because it is really difficult to work on the default window (with very little height and width). Section for Window size allows you to define your own length for the window. Tap and try different values to make it exactly match your screen.
Screen Buffer size specify how much scrolling area you want to have. It works as a great adjustment for those who need long sessions. It allows them to scroll through and check things out.
I suggest you check Let the system location window. That’s what works best unless you need something very specific.
General options
From Option tab you can choose Cursor size and convert between the two Display options (while in windowed view, your layout settings will prevail).
The more important things here are Command history And Edit options.
- Buffer size represents the number of commands to be memorized and available by the up/down arrows.
- Buffer number represents the maximum number of independent buffers that will be created and available to multiple instances at the same time.
- Check Get rid of old copies if you don’t want memory clogged with duplicate instructions in the set buffer size.
- Quick edit mode it’s great to use when you do a lot of copy and paste operations. With this selected, you can simply highlight the text to copy and right click to paste.
- Insert mode allows you to insert characters at the cursor position. The contrast, on the other hand, is to strike out and overwrite the following characters.
- Autocomplete only displayed in Default mode. When it is enabled you can press tab to complete the filename/folder easily.
Font and color options
These things don’t seem to matter much. But at work, you should configure them so that your eyes are comfortable and choose the colors and fonts that suit you best.
You can change the font size (depending on how far you sit from the screen) and font type (depending on your preference).
When it comes to colors, you should be wise enough to choose a background color and font with the right contrast.
Note: While you make changes, a preview of it will be available on Window preview. It gives you an approximation of your changes.
