1. Create a Venn Diagram in Google Docs with the Drawing Tool
The Drawing tool is a simple yet powerful feature of Google Docs. Using this feature, you can easily create Venn diagrams in Google Docs. You can even add text to the diagram. Follow the steps below.
Step 1: Open Google Docs.
Step 2: From the menu bar, click Insert > Drawing > select New. This will open the Draw window.
Step 3: Here, click on Shapes. Then go to Shapes and click on Oval.
Step 4: Now, use your mouse pointer to create an oval shape to your liking.
Step 5: The shapes in Google Docs are pre-filled with the background color. To remove that, select the shape and click the paint bucket icon.
Step 6: Then click on Transparency.
Step 7: Now, copy and paste the existing shape:
- On Windows: Press Control + C to copy and Control + V to paste.
- On a Mac: Press Command + C to copy and Command + V to paste.
Step 8: Now, use the mouse pointer to arrange the shapes as required. You can also use the red grid lines to arrange your shapes.
Step 9: Now click on the Text Box icon to insert text into your Venn diagram.
Step 10: Use the mouse pointer to create text boxes in the diagram shapes.
Step 11: Click on the text box. Once it’s selected, start typing. Repeat this process for all shapes.

Step 12: Once done, click ‘Save and Close’.
This will insert a Venn diagram into the document. If you want to make any further changes, click anywhere on the Venn diagram and when the Edit option appears, click it. This will reopen the Drawing window.
2. Insert Venn Diagrams into Google Docs with Add-ons
In addition to creating Venn diagrams manually, you can also use templates and customize them according to your requirements. While there are no Venn diagram templates available in Google Docs, you can use add-ons like Lucidchart and Cacoo to access them.
We have divided the steps into three parts. We will first talk about how to get the Lucidchart or Cacoo add-on, then the steps to use Lucidchart and Cacoo. If you already know how to get add-ons, you can move on to the second part.
1. Download add-ons in Google Docs
Step 1: Open the relevant file in Google Docs and click on Extensions.
Step 2: Then go to Add-ons and click on ‘Get Add-ons’.
Step 3: Here you can click on the search bar to find the Lucidchart add-on, or if it shows up on the main page, click on it.
Step 4: Then, click Install.
Step 5: Click Continue and follow the on-screen instructions to install the add-on.
Now, follow the steps above to install the Cacoo add-on. Once the add-on is installed, it’s time to use it. Follow the steps below to do that.
2. Use the Lucidchart Add-on to Create Venn Diagrams
Once the add-on has been added, it will automatically appear in the document side panel menu. Here’s how to go about it.
Note: Make sure you’re signed in to your Lucidchart account before continuing.
Step 1: To access the Lucidchart add-on, click the arrow to expand the side panel.
Step 2: Then, click on the Lucidchart icon.
Step 3: This will open Lucidchart in the side panel. You can use these tools to create Venn diagrams.
Step 4: You can also click on the three-dot icon to access additional menu icons.
Using built-in templates, you can easily insert Venn diagrams in Google Docs. If you are on the free plan, some restrictions may apply. For full access, you can also subscribe to their plans.
3. Using the Cocoa Chart
Step 1: Once you have finished adding the Cacoo Diagrams extension using the steps outlined above, click on Extensions.
Step 2: Then go to Cacoo Diagrams and click Insert Diagram. This will open the Cacoo Diagram side panel.
Step 3: Here, click Start. This will open a separate window.
Step 4: Sign in to your Cacoo Graph then click Authorize to connect your add-on to Docs.
Step 5: If you don’t currently have any documents in the Cacoo Diagram, click ‘Create Diagram’. This will open the Cacoo Chart in a separate window.
Step 6: Here you can use different templates available to create Venn diagrams and save documents.
Step 7: Then go back to Google Docs and click Refresh. Your recently saved diagram document will appear here.
