While
review Outlook.com
, Microsoft’s brand new email service the other day, I mentioned how it will replace both Microsoft’s Hotmail and Live email services. We have shared tricks like how to
convert your old Hotmail and Live email addresses into a new Outlook.com strip
email address,
Import Gmail contacts and social media
and more.
One feature I love about Outlook.com that I didn’t find in Gmail is the ability to use different email aliases to monitor an email account. This feature is useful when I want my email address to look professional in front of business partners, and I want it to look funny when I email my friends. And all this while I don’t need to switch between different email accounts.
In Outlook.com, I can easily have multiple email aliases pointing to a primary email address.
So let’s see how we can create and use email aliases in Outlook.
Create multiple Outlook.com aliases
Step 1: Open Outlook.com and sign in with your Outlook.com email address.
Step 2: Once you are in your Outlook.com inbox, click on the gear icon near the username in the upper right corner and click on options More mail settings.
Step 3: In Outlook Mail Settings, under Manage your account preferences Click on the link Create Outlook Alias.
Step 4: Outlook.com will now ask you to choose an Outlook.com email alias. You can use any email address as long as it is available.
When you choose a new Outlook.com email alias, it will be activated immediately. You can create as many email aliases as you like. All email aliases you create will be described as a folder in your Outlook.com email interface, and all incoming messages will be sorted accordingly.
Conclusion
Switching email services is a challenging task, but Outlook.com has made it a little easier by providing these great options. If you’ve just heard about Outlook.com, don’t forget to read our in-depth review of it for a quick understanding of the service.
