Integrate Dropbox With Yahoo Mail to Send Large Attachments

Yahoo Dropbox

We have seen how Google

to help you send attachments that exceed the size that email services can send by default (usually 25 MB). Yahoo Mail, while continuing to be the largest free email service, has always fallen behind when it comes to introducing new technology. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case this time, and it surprised everyone with Dropbox integration for email attachments.

Today we will learn how to enable this integration, send Dropbox attachments and how to save incoming email attachments directly to Dropbox.

Cool Tip: There’s also a way to integrate SkyDrive with Gmail. If that interests you, check out the details in this article.

Begin

Scroll through your list of unread emails. It is likely that you received an email from Dropbox (if you signed up with Dropbox, you will definitely receive one) like the one shown below.

Simply click the read button Enable Dropbox for Yahoo Mail from the email received. The next thing Dropbox will do is get your permission to get your name and email address.

Doing that will allow you to sign in to your Dropbox account or sign up for a new one. Since I signed up, I signed in to my Dropbox account.

You then have the choice to permanently link your selected account to Dropbox. That prevents repeated login attempts whenever you try to access Dropbox via Yahoo Mail. So it’s a good idea to Account link.

Note: Other ways to enable integration are to enable saving attachments or sharing attachments via Dropbox on Yahoo Mail.

Cool Tip: You can also share Dropbox files with Facebook groups and users. Here are the details of the process.

Share from Dropbox

When composing a new message, you can tap the attachment icon as before. Here you will see the second option reading Share from Dropbox.

Clicking on that option will pop up a modal window to let you select the required files. The good thing is that you can navigate through all the available files and folders, use the search function, or even upload files to your Dropbox account.

Save to Dropbox

Before integration, you could only save attachments to your local drive. You can now directly save those attachments directly to Dropbox. Click the Save button next to any attachment and select the option to Save to the container.

Save to container

You will be asked to choose a location/folder to save the file. The default is described as a new folder named Yahoo Mail.

Select Save Location

Conclusion

In my opinion, integrating Yahoo with Dropbox was a wise decision. Gmail and Outlook continue to set new standards when it comes to email, and Yahoo needs to do something similar to stay in the game. In the end, it delivered an improvement, and so on in a smart way, without incurring a lot of development costs.
