How to Copy Unselectable Text from Any Android App

Ever wanted to copy that one comment on a YouTube video from your Android, that’s funny isn’t it? But can not? Nothing can be copied from the official YouTube app. The same goes for the Play Store and other Google Apps. So today I want to show you how you can easily copy-paste text from apps that don’t let you copy it to the clipboard.

We previously shared how to perform some advanced tasks with the text you copy. Text Aide, the app in the article, offers a similar kind of functionality but in a different way and sometimes doesn’t work. The app I’m going to talk about today works flawlessly and easily does what it claims to do.

The official Android apps of Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and other social networking services do not allow you to copy text. Programmatically speaking, such text is called TextView. They cannot be edited or copied because there is no native support.

Universal Copy is an Android application that allows you to copy such TextView texts. Using it is very simple, you just need to activate it and you are ready to go. You need to grant access to allow it to inspect the content in the current window.

Once enabled, you can test the feature in YouTube or Facebook or any app that doesn’t allow you to copy text. However, before you do that, you need to activate Copy Mode on the specific window where you want to copy the text. You will get a fixed message about Universal Copy to enable copy mode. So whenever you want to copy from some text you need to enable it.

It even works on the official Google Search app. The app that doesn’t work is Google Playstand. It cannot select text from articles. It looks like Google has taken notice of such apps and has taken the necessary steps to keep publisher content unique.

Pushbullet users? Here are instructions on how you can share the Clipboard between Mac/Windows and Android using Pushbullet.

Extend usage

Not many options are available along with the copied text. Well, the app developer has another app called Easy Copy that allows you to perform different actions with copied text. For example, if you copied a phone number, you can save the number or call it directly. We have shared about it before.

Alternatively, you can use an additional Clipboard Manager like Clipper which will allow you to manage your copied texts and save them for future use.
