How to Change the Look of Mouse Pointer in Windows 7

Most of us change the desktop wallpaper, themes, login screen, etc. on Windows from time to time to give our computer a new look, but what about the old, ordinary (and perhaps boring!) Do we ever realize that it might need a change? Although it’s the most used thing on computers (come on, you can’t disagree with that, can you), I rarely come across computers with different mouse pointers.

If I’ve teased your conscience enough and you feel guilty for unfairly messing with your mouse pointer, it’s time to change its look!

This post will talk about all the grooving operations you can perform on the mouse pointer. We will talk about the default way in Windows as well as about some third party software/web applications to give it an interesting, colorful and lively look.

Change the cursor interface

Step 1: Click Start Orb in Windows 7 and type Mouse in the search box. When the search is finished, Windows will return the mouse application as one of the results. Click on it to open Mouse for Windows settings.

Step 2: In Mouse properties window, navigate to the Cursor tab to customize the mouse pointer. Here you can see that Windows already has some pre-configured schemes that you can apply some new look and feel to the mouse pointer.

Step 3: If you don’t like the default schemes, you can click each pointer type and click the browse button to apply the custom cursor.

Now you can search and apply from the default cursors provided by Windows, or you can download some awesome animated cursors from the many free online services available.

I personally use FunUtilities and AniCursor to download some cool dynamic cursors for Windows.

Once you download the cursor files, you can manually apply them using the browse button.

Step 4: After you have made the changes, save the schema and apply the settings.

You can save multiple diagrams and set them by theme, such as animals, flowers, insects, or anything your creative mind can think of.

So how would you redesign your Windows cursor? We love listening.
