With competition in the browser market heating up in the last few years, and Firefox and Chrome taking a significant share of Internet Explorer’s market share, this long-standing and formidable browser leader must change itself. Undoubtedly, Internet Explorer introduced some big (and positive) changes with versions 7 and 8. The recently released version 9 (in beta) also received good reviews from analysts.
Starting today, we’ll dive into some of the basic and advanced features in Internet Explorer 8 and in its latest beta.
We started this series with tab settings in Internet Explorer 8 and how one can modify it. This guide will show you how.
Here are the steps.
1. You will see a “Tools” option at the top right of the Internet Explorer window, just below the browser’s built-in search bar. Click it.
2. Now, in the drop-down menu, at the bottom, you will find Internet Options. Click it.
In the Internet Options window that opens, under the “General” tab at the top, you will find a “Tabs” section. There you will see a button named Settings. Click that button.
The Tabbed Browsing Settings window opens. Here you will find all sorts of options to modify the behavior of tabs in Internet Explorer 8.
Using the tabbed browsing settings panel, you can do the following.
- Enable or disable tabbed browsing
- Choose what you want to see when the new tab page is opened
- Modify the way pop-ups are opened
- Choose if you want to automatically switch to new tabs when they are created
- Enable or disable tab groups and quick tabs
- Show tab preview in taskbar
So in a nutshell, all tab-related customizations in Internet Explorer 8 can be done through the tabbed browsing settings panel.
