How to Change Margins in Google Docs on Desktop and Mobile

Google Docs is a pretty nifty tool for creating documents like letters, announcements, contracts, assignments, etc. You can even use Google Docs templates for business and productivity needs. But no matter what type of document you create, adding margins is always important to the overall look of the document.

By default, Google Docs provides a one-inch margin size for all four sides of the page. But you can customize the margin according to your needs. This post will show you how to change margins in Google Docs on Desktop and Mobile.

Change the margin on the screen with the ruler icon

A margin is an area in a document that prevents your content from touching the edges of the page. If you’re using Google Docs on your desktop, the first way to change the margins is to use Rulers. Although the Ruler icon (blue arrow pointing downwards) is displayed by default, here’s how you can enable it if you can’t see it on your document.

Step 1: Open a browser and access docs.google.com.

Step 2: Sign in to your Google account.

Step 3: Click Blank Document or open an existing document.

Step 4: Click View from the Top Menu Bar.

Step 5: Click Show Ruler from the list of options.

After activating the ruler, you are free to change the margins.

If you want to be more precise in setting margins according to your document needs, you can manually enter margin values ​​in Google Docs. This is the way.

Step 4: Once your document opens, click File in the top left corner in the Menu Bar.

Step 5: Select Page Setup from the list of options.

You can keep these margin values ​​the same for any new documents by clicking Set as Default in the bottom left corner.

Change margins in Google Docs on mobile devices

If you have to change margins in Google Docs on Android or iPhone, there are some simple steps to do the same. But before that, we recommend checking that you are using the latest version of the Google Docs app on your mobile phone.

After updating the app, here’s how you can change the margins. The steps are the same for both iPhone and Android users.

Step 1: Open the Google Docs app on your iPhone or Android.

Step 2: Sign in to your Google Account.

Step 3: Click the Plus icon at the bottom to open a new or existing document.
