Why doesn’t Twitter send SMS codes?
Twitter didn’t send the SMS code because you blocked the number 40404.
The number 40404 comes from Twitter, so you need to unblock it to receive the message.
According to the Twitter team, they are aware that some people are having trouble requesting and receiving codes.
Therefore, if you don’t have any blocked numbers but still can’t get the code, it’s Twitter’s fault.
Here’s what @TwitterSupport tweeted back in November, “We’re looking into some cases where SMS codes weren’t sent”.
Users were irritable in the comments, and most of them said that they had problems receiving the code.
“My God! I’m trying to log back into Twitter on my PC and now it says the verification code could not be sent to my phone”.
“Twitter doesn’t send the verification text to complete the login process for some reason.”

How to fix the error of not receiving Twitter verification code
To fix Twitter verification code not received error, you need to unblock 40404 numbers or all your blocked contacts.
Once you’ve unblocked your contacts, try sending the code again.
Alternatively, you can turn off 2FA on a device that’s signed in to Twitter (e.g. twitter.com on your computer).
If you still don’t receive the 2FA code, you need to contact Twitter or wait until they fix the problem on their side.

Method 1: Unblock phone numbers
How to unblock a phone number on iOS:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and select “Phone”.
- Select “Blocked Contacts”.
- Tap on “Edit” and tap the “-” icon on 40404 or all numbers.
- Open Twitter and try sending the code again.
How to unblock a phone number on Android:
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the three-dot icon.
- Select “Settings” followed by “Blocked Numbers”.
- Select the “X” icon followed by “Unblock” on 40404 or all numbers.
- Open Twitter and try sending the code again.
Method 2: Turn off 2FA on the device that is logged into Twitter
- Open Twitter on the device that is currently signed into Twitter (for example, if you’re still logged into Twitter on your computer via twitter.com, you can still access Twitter there).
- Go to Settings and support > Settings and privacy > Security and account access.
- Security > Two-Factor Authentication > Disable “Text Messages/Authentication Apps/Security Keys”.
Note: As long as you have a device currently logged into Twitter (e.g. computer, laptop, tablet), you can disable 2FA there.
Method 3: Contact Twitter support
- Go https://help.twitter.com/en/forms/account-access/regain-access/2fa-problem (or go to the Twitter Help Center and search for “2FA”).
- Enter your Twitter username and email address.
- Describe that you did not receive a confirmation/verification code and that you need help accessing your account.
- Submit the form and wait for Twitter’s response for a few days.
