How to Change Lock Screen Shortcuts on Samsung Galaxy Phones

Samsung’s One UI has matured over the years, and its latest version has so many customization options that you’ll never get tired of it. One of the important features is to put an application shortcut on the lock screen. That makes it easier to open a specific app directly, and saves you from having to tap multiple times on the screen.

And One UI 4 offers even more ways to customize themes, clock styles, and change lock screen shortcuts – the ones you see at the bottom of the screen. Here’s how to change the lock screen shortcuts from the default shortcuts on Samsung Galaxy Phones.

What is a lock screen shortcut?

When you turn on your smartphone screen, the lock screen will show essential details like date, time, notifications, signal strength, battery life percentage etc. brings up two app icons that appear as shortcuts in the bottom corners. How to change the shortcut on the lock screen

The new One UI offers a few native settings for modifying lock screen shortcuts. That should get you through if you just want to replace them. However, you can get help from Samsung’s Good Lock app to further customize your phone’s lock screen. First, let’s see how you can change the lock screen shortcut using the native options.

Customize Using Default Options

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Samsung Galaxy smartphone and navigate to the Lock screen section.

Step 3: Click the Shortcuts option to change the shortcuts that are pre-assigned to the left and right corners on the lock screen.

Step 4: Select Shortcut on the left and select the application you want to launch when swiping left on the lock screen. You can choose to launch third-party apps or shortcuts like Flashlight, Do Not Disturb, Calculator, etc.

Step 5: Similarly, select Right Shortcut and choose what you want to open when swiping in from the right.

Customize with Good Lock

Step 1: Download and install the Good Lock app on your Galaxy smartphone.

Step 2: Open the app and tap the install button next to LockStar to install the module from the Galaxy Store.

Step 3: After the module installs, go back to the Good Lock app and tap on LockStar.

Step 6: You will see the entire layout of the lock screen appear with all the different components such as clocks, widgets, notifications, music controls and of course shortcuts.

Step 7: Tap one of the shortcuts at the bottom and you’ll see a rectangular outline around the area.

Step 8: If you want to get rid of the lock screen shortcuts completely, you can tap the little ‘x’ icon in the upper right corner of the rectangular border.

Step 9: To customize the shortcuts, select the small edit button in the bottom left corner of the border.

Step 10: Now you will see two options. The selected layout will be the current layout with two shortcuts. The other option has six different keyboard shortcuts you can set. Select that option.

Step 11: After you’ve finished selecting the options, you can choose to align the lock screen shortcut. Try all the options and choose the one that suits your requirements.

Step 12: After selecting the desired layout, tap the first ‘+’ button inside the shortcut tray to add a shortcut.

Step 14: Continue to select other applications that you want to add as shortcuts until all 6 applications are selected. Then, tap Apply in the top left corner of the screen.

Step 15: Now, tap Save in the top left corner to apply all the changes.

That’s it. Lock your phone now. Instead of two separate buttons, you get a launcher-like button to open shortcuts. This is how it will appear.
