Calling ‘copy-paste’ an integral part of outside life wouldn’t be an exaggeration, would it? Most of us would agree that we do it very often every day, often across multiple devices. And almost all of that is done in the most basic way: copy the text and paste it where it’s needed. When it comes to images, we may need to be a little more careful.
As for copying text, we know that when we copy a paragraph, its formatting will appear. And, we have also discussed solutions to that in the past.
What about pictures? Well, there’s not much to worry about in terms of the accompanying format. However, when our destination is a tool like MS Word, we need to be sure about the paste options. By default, when you copy-paste or insert an image, the image is aligned with the text (see image below).
This is usually not the desired outcome. Indeed, each time we found ourselves manually adjusting the image and setting it accordingly.
Tip for Gmail users: While composing a message if you are copying text from somewhere else, you may need to reformat it. Here are 3 ways to paste unformatted text.
When we include an image in our document, we are always shown the layout options and we can choose the desired settings.
Clicking see more will display a Presentation modal window with three tabs – Position, Text Wrapping and Size. They cater for different preference settings for images.
What’s more interesting is that we have set our default properties so that whenever we import an image it will be set with those settings. The idea is to have a default paste option. Here’s how to get it.
Steps to set default image paste option
Our steps are based on MS Word 2013. They are also very similar on lower versions.
Step 1: Navigate to Document menu and launch the backstage view.
Step 2: From the left menu pane, select Option.
Step 3: The Word option window will appear. On the left pane, you will see many options. Click High level.
Step 4: Now, on the right side, scroll to the section for Cut, copy and paste.
Step 5: Locate the read settings, Insert/paste image as and choose the one you want.
Here is what they mean:-
- Match the text keep the image right where you inserted it, next to the text.
- square wrap text around the border of an image.
- Chop Wrap text tightly around the image. To understand how it differs from Square, try the installation with an irregular image.
- behind the text to display text on images.
- Before the text to display image on text
- on and under to put the image on its own line.
Conclusion
It’s all about the default photo paste options on MS Word. I’m sure it will save you time in manually setting up the images that you insert next time.
