How to Backup Windows 7 Drivers Using Double Driver

Most PC manufacturers today have stopped shipping driver backup discs with a new system. You can get them online, but that’s often not the most convenient method, especially when you’re reinstalling Windows and may not have a network driver available to connect to the internet. Therefore, it is important that you back up your Windows 7 drivers (or any version of Windows for that matter) and keep them safe for when you need them.

There are a number of driver backup utilities available, including both paid and free options. Double Driver is a feature-rich freeware that can help you backup your Windows 7 drivers, restore them, print a list of them, and much more.

The tool is portable, meaning you don’t need to install it; it can be run directly from the executable. And you can also use it to backup drivers of other Windows installations. I will talk more about it a bit later.

Let’s see how to use this nifty add-on.

Step 1. Go to the Double Driver download page and download the utility in a compressed format.

Step 2. Extract the file and double-click the executable to run it.

Step 3. It will pop up a confirmation window that it is ready to run. Click Backup.

Step 4. Now you will see the options Scan Current System and Scan Other System at the bottom. The current system is the installation of the operating system you are working on. If you have other Windows installations in separate partitions, you can also scan them. But you will need to run it as administrator to accomplish that task. Clicking the Scan More System button will guide you through that process.

Step 5. Click Scan for current system which will show the driver. You can then click Back Up Now to start the backup process. Be sure to save the backup to another partition of the hard disk (if you created one) or to an external storage device such as a USB drive.

That’s it. Your Windows drivers are now safely backed up. As you must have noticed, the software provides recovery and printing options that can be used as needed. Therefore, you should carry this tool in your USB drive so that you can use it on a system that is reinstalling Windows.
