Google+ Photos is my one-stop destination when it comes to saving and sharing photos online. There are many basic little reasons why I choose Google+ over any other service. But the ones worth mentioning are the unlimited space for 2048p, Auto-awesome and Stories uploads. Stories are a great way to share photos online; Google creates a scrapbook for you with the photos you’ve uploaded. These scraps are fun to look at and provide all the location information, such as places you’ve passed along with small map snippets.

Photos uploaded using Android and iOS already have location data attached, so Google Stories can use tracking data. But if you used a DSLR or any other camera without GPS, these recordings will be missing from your photos, so your Stories won’t be as creative. Chances are, Google might not even make stories out of them.
If you love Google Stories like I do and want to insert GPS location data into your photos, there is a simple Picasa trick you can use. To get started, download and install the latest version of Picasa Desktop on your computer if you haven’t already.
Add location data to photos manually
To add GPS Location Data, import all photos into an album in Picasa. Once the photos are in place, click GPS icon at the bottom of the app. This will open up a small world map on the right hand side.
Now, select the photo where you want to add location data. You can also batch select photos if you have multiple photos at a certain location. Finally, search for the location on the open map to the right. If the search is successful, Picasa will ask if you want to add location coordinates to the photo’s EXIF data. After you confirm, the location coordinates are automatically saved to your photo.
Cool Tip: The green location marker on Picasa Maps can be used to manually pin a photo on the map if you are sure of the exact location.
These photos can now be uploaded online and they will have GPS data information for the tools to show their magic. If you want to be sure, just click Information button in Picasa.
Remove location data from photos
So that’s how you can add location data to photos that don’t have them yet. But if privacy is more important to you than anything else, let me show you an easy Windows trick that can remove location data from JPEG images. These photos can be from your camera or smartphone, but before you start, copy them to your computer’s hard drive.
Select all photos and right click on one of them to select Property. In the details tab you will be able to see the EXIF data of the photo. Go GPS tab and you will be able to see (multiple values) next to latitude and longitude. click Delete Attributes and Personal Information hyperlink at the bottom of the window.
Note: If you don’t see the GPS category in the image properties, the photo isn’t geotagged.
Finally, remove the coordinate details from the photo and click ALRIGHT button. Depending on the number of images, Windows may take some time to process. But once done, all the photos will have all location information deleted.
