For the longest time, Microsoft’s PowerPoint has been a popular destination for creating slides and presentations. Thankfully, things have changed a lot, and now, there are quite a few alternatives like Google Slides. Google Slides is a feature-packed service with a lot of tricks up its sleeve, but it doesn’t have its own option to add icons directly. For this you will have to add the downloaded icons as images or you may have to install some add-ons to get the job done.
When installed, these add-ons work like any other and allow you to explore different icons and illustrations without leaving the window. Like any other add-on, they work online and you will need Internet access for them to work.
Now that everything is in place, let’s explore some of these add-ons that allow you to add icons to Google Slides to improve the overall look.
1. Flat Icons
The Flaticon website is probably one of the popular destinations for icons, and the Google Slides Add-on is no less. With it, you can explore a lot of icons, whether it’s a simple black and white icon or a fancy colored one.
The best part is that the add-on shows the same icons at the bottom. This saves a lot of work because you don’t have to search multiple times for the same thing. Additionally, it ensures that your slides have a cohesive design with similar icons.
Once you have the Flaticon add-on installed, you can search for icons on the right panel. Then just click the Insert button to add one to your slide. And hey, you can also choose the size and color.
While you can always change the size freely, choosing a specific size from the drop-down menu will allow you to have the same size throughout.
Naturally, some icons are locked under the fee wall. But the good thing is that the range of free icons is quite extensive. Plus, after you install this add-on, you’ll be able to use it on Google Docs and Google Sheets.
2. Icons8 . Free Icons
If you don’t want to spend on icons, then you should check out the Icon8 add-on. This add-on works on Google Slides, Forms and even Docs. More importantly, it has a large collection of icons in a variety of styles and colors so you have enough options to accentuate boring slides.
The search feature makes it easier to find a specific type. Like above, you can choose the size and color from the color wheel.
Using add-ons is not rocket science. You just need to choose and continue your work.
3. Noun project
Another add-on that allows you to add icons to Google Slides is Noun Project. It’s a freemium add-on, and the free version gives you access to about 100 icons. Of course, you can upgrade and get access to a wide variety of icons.
Noun Project has mostly black and white icons by default. However, of course, you can choose a color from the pinwheel to change the tone. On the other hand, it is limited to a single tone.
Like Flaticon, you can also choose the size. Or, you can add the icon directly on your Google Slide by clicking the little Download symbol on the icons.
It is freely available on the Google Workspace Marketplace. To access all the icons, you will have to subscribe to the paid version.
How to change the color of the icons
Most of these add-ons let you change the colors pretty easily, as long as the extensions panel. The good news is that Slides also has a built-in method to let you change the format.
To do so, select the icon and go to Format > Formatting Options. Select Change color from the drop-down menu and choose a color.
At the same time, you can adjust the transparency and brightness of the icon. Or if you want to add a zing part, you can add animations for these icons as well.
Add color to your slides
These are some add-ons through which you can add icons to your Google add-ons. If you’re not comfortable allowing access, you can download the icons separately and add them as photos/images.
Naturally, this will complicate things a bit as you’ll need to figure out the color theme before downloading them. You may have to pay extra cost per icon.
