How to Use Holidays Calendar on iPhone
The Apple Calendar app offers a built-in regional calendar, displaying the common holidays (occasions and festivals) from that area. You can also subscribe to someone else’s calendar (office, college, colleagues, partner, etc.) or create your custom holiday calendar.
Add Holiday Calendar on iPhone or iPad
You can add a new calendar if you have shifted to a new country or want to include the dates of religious and cultural holidays. By default, the iPhone syncs to multiple calendars based on the emails added to it, region, language settings, and more.
Moreover, you can also use iCloud sync to get that particular calendar on all your Apple devices. Follow these steps.
Step 1: Open Calendar app. Tap on Calendars from the bottom.
Step 2: Tap on Add Calendar at the bottom-left corner. Now, choose between
- Add Calendar
- Add Subscription Calendar
- Add Holiday Calendar
Add a Pre-Designed Holidays Calendar
If you choose Holiday Calendar, select the region from the next page. However, if you have an invitation link from your office or colleague’s calendar, choose Subscription Calendar and enter the link.
Whether it’s a Holiday calendar or a subscription calendar, you can’t add or delete holidays from them. Only the calendar admin/provider can modify dates and events.
Add a Custom Holidays Calendar
If you want to make a custom calendar, tap on Add Calendar → name the calendar and give it a color → tap Done.
To add event/holiday dates to your newly created calendar, go to Calendars home page, i.e., Today tab and tap +.
On the Create New Event page, fill in the details of the holiday/event. Tap the toggle to enable All Day. Scroll down and tap on Calendar.
Finally, select the email ID and new calendar name > tap Add.
Remove Holidays Calendar App on iPhone and iPad
As mentioned above, you can’t delete a specific holiday date that doesn’t apply to you from the default Holiday calendars. Your only choice is to completely remove/hide it so you can stop receiving notifications for those holidays.
Step 1: Open the Calendar app → Calendar tab.
Step 2: Here, you will see a list of all the default-enabled holiday calendars. To remove a calendar, uncheck it.
Step 3: Tap on Done at the top-right corner to confirm your choice.
Add and Remove Holidays in the Calendar App on Mac
You can similarly add or remove holidays in the Calendar app using your Mac. This feature will help you remove all the unnecessary notifications of holidays not meant for you.
To Add a Default or Custom Holiday Calendar
Step 1: Open the Calendar app > tap File from the top menu bar.
Step 2: Here, select one of the following options:
- New Calendar: To design your custom Holiday Calendar.
- New Calendar Subscription: To subscribe to someone’s calendar.
- New Holiday Calendar: To add region-wise holidays.
To Remove a Holiday Calendar
Step 1: Open the Calendar app on Mac. Click the Calendar icon from the top-left corner.
Step 2: Here, right-click the calendar > select Unsubscribe from the contextual menu.
Step 3: Click Unsubscribe again to confirm.
Alternatively, go to Calendars → Settings (from the menu bar) → General tab → uncheck the calendar options available here.
