However, since the release of iOS 6 and iPhone 5, owners of Apple’s latest smartphones have encountered a number of Wi-Fi issues that, as expected, have mostly been resolved with updates. next iOS update. Even after trying all the tips and recommendations we shared with you in this post, the download speed of the apps was still very low, with the Squarespace Note app (9.3 MB file) taking up a lot of space. 6 minutes to download on my iPhone 5, while that app only took about 1 minute to download on iPhone 4 or 4S.
Thankfully, after trying a few other things, manually setting DNS on my iPhone was the way to go in my case and seems to work in all other cases as well.
So let’s see why this is happening and then how you can easily solve this problem.
Your current DNS server could be your problem
In my particular case I discovered that my ISP (Internet Service Provider) had my router set up using Google’s public DNS which is 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4. You can find your DNS Server on your iPhone by going to Settings > Wi-Fi, then tapping the blue arrow next to the Wi-Fi network you’re connected to.
A lot of ISPs now use Google’s Public DNS because it’s pretty fast and reliable, but for some reason this DNS Server doesn’t seem to work well with iOS devices, especially with iPhone 5. Whether this is a coincidence or not, you decide.
Change Your iPhone’s DNS Servers Manually
Normally, if you want to change the DNS Server on your router so that the changes spread to all connected devices, you will need to configure it. However, not all of us have admin credentials to do this. Thankfully, you don’t need them. Since this particular issue only affects iPhone 5, all you need to do is change the DNS Server right on your iPhone.
To do this, you can use any of the fast, free Public DNS Servers available on the web, such as those on this list. Once you select your favorites, on your iPhone 5, go to where your Wi-Fi network information is located, as we showed you above, then tap the DNS field.
Once there, delete the provided DNS and then enter the DNS you selected from the list.

Your go. Once done, just go back a few screens for the changes to take place and try re-downloading anything from the App Store. You will notice significant speed improvements.
