Fix Facebook Photos Not Syncing With iCloud Contacts

iOS has had a feature for several years now that allows you to link your Facebook account and then get a profile picture from your friends to use as their contact photo. However, this doesn’t always work and it doesn’t look like there will be an update soon to address the issue.

If you’re having trouble syncing your friends’ Facebook photos with their appropriate contact tags, it’s time for an alternative. We have two potential solutions here: one that’s just a quick fix in the Settings menu, and another that requires a third-party app to do the work for you.

Re-authenticate Facebook

This first step to take is a quick one, but you can see success with it. All we’ll do to re-authenticate your Facebook account with iOS is sign out through Settings and then sign back in.

To sign out, go to Settingthen scroll down Facebook. Tap your name on this page to display your login information and press Delete the account. You will have to press Delete again to confirm.

If you’ve previously added Facebook to your Contacts, iOS will ask you what you want to do with that information because the information is now scattered across your phone. You can choose to merge your Facebook information with your existing contacts, or delete all of your Facebook contacts and keep only iCloud or other accounts. This is completely up to you, but I recommend clearing your Facebook information to start fresh.

Once you’ve signed out, just log back in with your username and password. Guaranteed Contact enabled and try mining Update all contacts again.

I noticed that the logout and re-login process updated some additional contacts from earlier, but still didn’t solve the problem completely. If this produces a good enough result for you, there’s no need to go any further. If not…

Download GoSync

When all else fails, a third-party app called GoSync works extremely well to sync your contacts with their respective Facebook photos. It costs $1.99, so you really have to dedicate yourself to fixing this problem but if it does, it’s pretty easy to set up and maintain syncing.

Buy the app, open the app and tap Start syncing. Link your Facebook account and GoSync will start scanning your entire friends list. Depending on how many Facebook friends you have, this can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.

First, GoSync shows you all your existing matches. Uncheck if any is incorrect. Clap Next to then see suggested matches, will match the Facebook photo with the contact name. Again, uncheck if you see anything incorrect. Finally, if any contacts aren’t synced, you can choose to manually find just one by selecting a Facebook friend and then selecting their appropriate contact.

Clap Finished to sync everything.

GoSync can accurately match most people in my contact list to their Facebook profile picture. I managed to fix some of the slowness by myself using the manual tool. But overall, this third-party solution works much better than the sync option in iOS Settings.
