If there is any evidence that tablets and smartphones are really starting to replace computers in our lives, it can be found in many of the tasks we previously assumed. was complex and can now be done with relative ease on almost any device.
Of course, the iPhone (or iOS) is no exception, especially considering the hundreds of thousands of apps available in the App Store.
That said, one of the perfect examples of these types of tasks is converting PDF documents to Office documents or vice versa. These tasks would have required very complex programs and apps to perform on traditional computers years ago, but can now be done right from your iPhone and in seconds. All for free using a few really useful new apps.
Let’s take a look at them and how they work.
Convert PDF files to Office format like Excel, Word and all
Before you get started, head over to the App Store and download Able2Extract PDF Converter to your iOS device.
One of the great things about this app is that it doesn’t get in the way. In fact, once installed, you don’t even need to open it. If you want to extract an Excel or Word file from any PDF file, you can open the application that contains the PDF file (Dropbox in this example) or download the PDF file from an email.
When you find the PDF file you want to convert to an Office file, press and hold it (or find Share or Open… button) and select Able2Extract PDF Converter app from the available options.
The PDF file will now show up in the app. To convert it to an Office file, just tap Converted into (two circle arrows), select the type of Office document you want to receive and watch the application do its magic.
When your Office file is ready, it will appear on the screen. From there, you can export it to many other apps by tapping Share icon.
In my case, I not only converted a PDF to an Excel file, but also extracted a Word document from another PDF. I then exported both Office documents to Dropbox and was pleasantly surprised by the impressive results when I opened both documents on my Mac.
The application managed to arrange the tables properly in the Excel file and even recognized the watermark in the Word file. So overall great results.
Convert Office format to PDF
To do this, first download the Sonic PDF Creator app from the App Store.
Coming from the same developer, the process to convert an Office file to a PDF is pretty much the same: You go to an app or email with the Office document you want to convert to PDF, tap the button Share or Open… button and then select Sonic PDF Creator from the available options.
The app will open and start converting your files right away. Once you’re done, you can preview your PDF right in the app, or export it to another file (like Dropbox) for viewing on your Mac.
In my experience, the conversion is seamless, and I have seen no problems with the resulting PDFs.
And that’s about it! These two apps from InvestInTech developers turned out great and should be in fact app for anyone who works a lot with PDF. Best of all, they’re free, while any other worthy alternative on the App Store will cost you a few dollars. So there’s no reason not to love them. Enjoy!
