How to Disable App Switch List Hot Corner on Windows 8

Some people like the concept of hot corner on Windows 8. It’s really a quick way to switch between running apps, open power menu or charm bar. While it’s fast and promising, when we say “some” people we mean it’s not the favorites of every Windows 8 user. Myself included.

Take, for example, the application switch list. It appears every time you point to the top left corner and swipe down. This behavior makes me very uncomfortable and often interrupts my work sessions. Mainly because most desktop programs have a file menu in that area. And, when trying to reach the menu, I almost always accidentally launch the app switcher list.

App Switching List

Since there are other ways (shortcuts are the way I prefer) to switch between open apps, I thought I should turn off the hot corner (for the app switching list) and save myself the hassle. If you are looking for the same solution, here it is.

Steps to Disable App Switching List

It really is a simple setting change. You can easily revert when you want.

Step 1: Swipe on the right edge to show the charm bar on your screen. Select Setting from the list.

Step 2: From Setting menu, click Change computer settings.

Step 3: When PC Settings page is brought up, navigate to overview from the left pane.

Step 4: Finally, in the right pane slide the on/off switch to turn it off Allows switching between recent apps. To re-enable the feature, simply flip the switch on.

Disable app switching

That’s it. The moment you change the switch, the feature will be deactivated. You don’t have to worry about saving settings anywhere. Try and test it before closing Setting window.

Switch between apps

Once you’ve disabled the app switching list, you’re out of trouble but at the same time losing a very simple way to switch between apps.

Like all other versions of Windows, you can use Alt + Tab to switch between desktop apps and metro apps. With that, however, you’ll only be able to switch to the most recently opened metro app.

Also, note that the Windows + Tab combination stops working when you disable the application switching list. So try your luck and find out more ways if any.

Conclusion

Hot Corner is simply the best and easiest way to launch the app switcher list. And, for most users, that should be the most comfortable gesture. But if it bothers you and the intensity of the problem is higher than the comfort it provides, then disabling it would be the way to go.
