Concord Crew Builder and Crew Bonuses explained

While Concord might have 16 heroes for you to play in each match, you can only bring in a potential 12 to choose from.

This is where the Crew Builder comes in, allowing you to pick your favourite Freegunners from the roster as potential picks for the matches you take part in.

What is the Crew Builder in Concord?

Essentially, Concord’s Crew Builder allows you to create custom lists of heroes that you can choose from when you spawn into each match. There are 12 Freegunners to a Crew, which means you’ll need to omit at least four heroes from the roster – not taking Variants into account, that is.

You’re given a default Crew to start the game with, which gives you a good mix of characters to choose from in each class type. However, once you reach Level 6, you’ll be able to create your own custom Crews, with the potential to have multiple Variants of the same Freegunner if you so choose.

There are a few rules you need to know about when creating a custom Crew:

  • You must include 12 Freegunners in total
  • Five of those must be unique
  • There’s a maximum limit of three variants per Freegunner

These rules are in place to ensure you always have a good mix of characters in a Crew, as there can only be one of each character on the battlefield at any one time. If you’ve got your heart set on playing as 1-Off but a teammate has already picked him, you’ll need to settle for another character.

If you realise halfway through a match that your crew is working out for you, there are always four backups to choose from, and the game picks mostly at random. These should fill any gaps that you have in your current Crew loadout.

You can create multiple Crews to swap out in between matches. For example, I have an optimal Crew picked out for Team Deathmatch and another one that’s better suited to the more tactical, no respawn modes.

Crew Bonuses explained

Crew Bonuses are a passive buff that you can earn by playing multiple different characters in the same match. Each Freegunner class has a different buff they can provide, and you’ll retain those Crew Bonuses whenever you respawn with a different character.

Here are all the different Crew Bonuses for each class:

  • Anchor: Increased healing received
  • Breacher: Faster dodge cooldown
  • Haunt: Improved mobility
  • Ranger: Improved weapon recoil
  • Tactician: Faster reload speed
  • Warden: Longer weapon range

In theory, you could spawn and die five times over and as long as you respawn with a different character class each time, you’ll have all of the Crew Bonuses stacked on top of each other by the time you reach your fifth respawn.

This is meant to encourage players to switch up their playstyle and change to a different character if the current team composition isn’t working for them, so it pays to experiment a little with your custom Crews.
