Sometimes, I wish I could send all my Gmail attachments to Dropbox. Sometimes, I also want to send a few to my Evernote account just to note things down. Of course, I could manually download the files and upload it to Dropbox and Evernote, but that’s way too outdated.
Today I’ll show you how you can use the Internet to work for yourself and automate the task of sending Gmail attachments to Dropbox and Evernote. We will use two services, attachments.me and Wappwolf to complete the current task.
Wappwolf and attachments.me are two ifttt-like online services for automating your tasks on the web. Both are free to use and make the process a breeze. So let’s get started….
Send attachments from Gmail to Dropbox
Step 1: Before continuing, create a new folder in your Dropbox account to save all Gmail attachments. Although you can use an existing folder, creating a new folder makes them fragmentary.
Step 2: Download and install the attachments.me extension to your browser and register yourself with your Google account.
Step 3: The extension will seamlessly integrate with your Gmail inbox and will start tracking all your email attachments. Since our aim is to send attachments to a folder in Dropbox, we will have to connect both services (Dropbox and attachments.me). Click the attachments.me button (paperclip icon) and select Cloud service management to connect to your Dropbox account.
Step 4: Once you’ve connected your Dropbox account to attachments.me, it’s time to create rules for incoming attachments. Click the attachments.me button again and select the option Manage rules.
Step 5: Here, create a new rule by selecting the type of file you want to send to Dropbox and the folder you want to send it to. Remember to select the new folder we created specifically on Dropbox for work.
Step 6: Finally save the rule. From this point on, whenever you receive an email with an attachment that matches the filter you created, the file will automatically be uploaded to the folder in Dropbox.
Go ahead and test the connection by sending you a fake email with an attachment. If you see the attachment in your Dropbox folder, you can continue.
With this we are 50% done. Now let’s see how you can send these files to Evernote.
Send attachments from Dropbox to Evernote
Step 1: Open Wappwolf and create an account to get started. You can use your Dropbox account to log in, which will take care of connecting to your Dropbox account.
Step 2: Once logged in, you will be redirected to your Automation page. If you are a new user, the page will be blank. Press the button Create new automation.
Step 3: Now Wappwolf will load all the folders you have on your Dropbox account. Select the one you configured above to receive Gmail attachments sent and hit the Next button.
Step 4: Now, from the list of actions, search and select Upload it to Evernote and connect Wappwolf to your Evernote account.
Step 5: Once done, Wappwolf will ask you to select the Evernote Notebook to which you want to upload the attachment. Furthermore, provide the title, text and tags you want for the notes and save the settings.
Step 6: Finally click on the Finish button at the top of the page to save the automation.
You can create different Dropbox folders, attachments.me rules, and automate Wappwolf to upload different types of attachments to different Notebooks on Evernote. If you want to stop the automation, just log in to the Wappwolf automation page and delete the rule.
That’s it, from now on, all attachments (specific attachments if you’ve created a filter) will be automatically saved to your Evernote account. Although the process may seem a bit lengthy, it is a one-time job. Once you configure it, everything is automated for you, and you won’t even have to raise an eyebrow to send attachments from Gmail to Evernote.
