How to Root Lenovo K3 Note (K50a40) with CWM Recovery and PDAnet

Here the reason we are using PDAnet instead of SPFTools is that sometimes SPFtools doesn’t accept special ports and also has problem on Windows with signed driver. This is the safest method I know. So let’s get started.

Prerequisites:

  • Download this zip folder contains – Lenovo Drivers, CWM Recovery image, Minimal ADB, Fastboot and Supersu.zip.
  • Minimum 35% battery required.
  • Lenovo USB Cable.

Unzip the files and copy supersu.zip to the phone memory. I ask you to do this first as this is the only thing you will be copying to your phone. Now, follow the steps below carefully and only in this order:

Step 1

Install Lenovo driver from extracted zip folder – Phone 2.0.

Step 2

After installing it. Now, you have to install PDAnet on your PC and phone. Connect your phone via USB cable to your PC. Make sure you always turn ON USB debugging mode. Start installing PDAnet. During the installation process, the software will also install PDAnet on the K3 Note. To do so, you will have to give USB Debugging permission.

You will receive an RSA fingerprint key in your phone and you will have to accept it. Alternatively, select the option Always allow This Computer and ALRIGHT.

This will install PDAnet on your PC and phone. Now the next step is to install CWM recovery through ADB using Fastboot.

Step – 3: Install CWM Recovery in Fastboot mode using ADB

Keep your phone connected via USB cable. Now go to the following directory Minimal ADB and Fastboot > py_cmd.exe. It’s a command prompt application. Now paste below code in command prompt and press enter.

adb device

This code will find devices connected to your PC. And it will show your phone running in List of attached equipment. It will display a codename for your device.

If your device is not listed, remove the USB cable and reconnect it. Alternatively, restart the app and re-enter the code above. It will show your device. Here, check out this log for reference.

This next code will reboot your device. But, this is the hard part. After you press enter the code, you will have to immediately press the button combination to enter the phone recovery. The button combination is Volume up + Volume down + Power button. Now, copy the code and press enter.

fastboot reboot

Now, immediately press the button combination. The Lenovo logo will be displayed. When it appears, let go of the power button and keep holding the volume button. This will put you into CWM recovery. Well, if you accidentally hit the combination, you can do this step again after rebooting. However, you will have to do the entire step 3 again.

Step 4: Install Upadte-supersu.zip

Keep your phone connected via USB cable. Use volume up And turn down the volume buttons to go up and down optionally and power button to enter. You will be able to choose your language. Well, just two people. English and perhaps Chinese.

On the next screen, select install zip.
