A Quick Guide to What’s Changed in Facebook’s New Timeline

Come December 22nd and you’ll have a Facebook Timeline adorning your profile whether you like it or not. With Timeline, Facebook has changed its look and perhaps made it more personal to you and me. In a nutshell, Facebook Timeline is a date collage of all of our memorable posts, photos, and events.

Facebook shut down later on ‘recent’ events in our lives. With Timeline, the social network hopes to shape your profile into a personal story so that you and your social connections can rediscover each other’s pasts by visiting Timeline and updating all those old posts with a single vertical scroll.

The timeline is very intuitive.. and more

The large edge-to-edge photo at the top (which you can place) is just the first highlight of the Timeline. It grabs attention for a while, but we really need to dig deep to see that the Timeline is more than just pretty packaging.

You choose your story

By default, Timeline includes your top stories. But Facebook allows you to customize your Timeline by adding and removing items as needed. You can also star a post, update, or event to give it more visual space and set it apart from the rest.

Activity Log Timeline Control

The Activity Log is where all that goes on the Timeline is in control. It’s a private place that lists everything you’ve done on Facebook so far. Everything is listed chronologically by date and time. With a simple click, you can allow posts to show up on your Timeline.

Of course, the reverse is also true – you can edit the feature on your Timeline or remove it entirely.

Apps Add More Richness to Timeline

Apps have been on Facebook for quite some time now – some annoying, some helpful. You can bring more interaction to your Timeline by adding apps (and games) from the Apps Dashboard and Game Dashboard. This isn’t really a new feature as the process of adding and using the app remains the same as before. For both, you can browse recommended, latest and what your friends are enjoying. Like before, you can search for apps and games from the Facebook search bar.

The best thing about Timeline is that it acts like a social ‘time machine’. You don’t have to dig into the past, it’s all neatly arranged for you. Facebook allows you to bring back your best memories and give it extra time in the headlines. The Facebook Support pages are more responsive on Timeline. Activate it, preview it and send us your compliments and accolades.
