Instagram has over a billion monthly visitors to its credit and the app makes it a worthy place to visit. Creators regularly add new features to attract users. Just a few days ago, Instagram launched a buddy list for stories. Before that, name tags and question stickers were introduced.
Question stickers are part of Instagram story stickers which are also updated regularly. It seems that stickers are gradually replacing emojis and also making the story more engaging. Recently, WhatsApp also added a sticker feature to its app.
Instagram offers a wide range of stickers. These include static, animated, clickable, expandable, and interactive emojis. In this guide we will tell you what these Instagram stickers mean.

Clickable stickers
Clickable stickers have a specific link or address to perform a specific function when you tap on them.
1. Location stickers
When you tap a location sticker, Instagram will show you nearby locations depending on your current location (as long as location services are active on your phone). To add a custom location, that is, a location other than your current location, use the search feature to find it.

The location label is clickable. That means when they’re in a story, you can tap on them and see the location on Instagram. You will also be able to see other images added to that particular location.

2. Label mention
If you want to tag someone in your story, Instagram offers customizable stickers for that. Called a mention sticker, you need to enter the first few letters of the username of the account you want to tag. Instagram will then display relevant results in a circular thumbnail at the bottom. Tap the account you want to mention.
Once the story with the mention sticker is published, the tagged user will receive a message in their Instagram Inbox. They will have the option to reshare your story as their own story but only if you have a public profile.
The mention sticker is also clickable. So viewers can view and access the mentioned profiles easily.

3. Hash sign sticker
Just like you use hashtags in normal posts, you can also use hashtags in your stories. Similar to the mentioned sticker, you need to enter the first few letters of the hashtag you want to use. Instagram will then make recommendations based on it. Select the hashtag you want to use.
Again, since this is a clickable sticker, viewers who tap the sticker will be taken to a hashtag page. As a result, hashtags help achieve a broader reach of the story as more people see it and can subscribe to a specific hashtag.
You’ll be able to see viewers who came from hashtags in the People who viewed your story preferences.

Stickers are automatically generated
Imagine adding the correct date, time, and weather conditions to your story. But you don’t need to take screenshots or add text. The auto-generated stickers automatically get weather, time and date information.
1. Date and time stamp
When you take a new photo or upload it later on the same day in your story, you’ll see a time stamp that refers to when the photo was taken. Tap the sticker to switch between different clock types.
However, if you upload it the next day or upload an old photo from your story, you’ll see a date sticker instead of the time. For old photos, date stickers are added automatically. In case you don’t want to, hold the sticker and drag it towards the Remove icon at the bottom. Both of these stickers use information from your device.
2. Date stickers
To add the current date to your story, you must use a date sticker. Unlike the date sticker, if you upload an old photo, it will still add the current date, not the date the photo was taken.
3. Weather stickers
Weather stickers add the current weather of your current location. Even if you upload old pictures, only the current weather will be added. To change from degrees F to degrees C, tap the sticker.
Interactive stickers
You can better engage your followers by asking questions, comments or reactions. So the interactive stickers serve the purpose without too much effort.
1. Poll Stickers
Let’s say when you go shopping, you like two dresses and don’t know which one to buy. What if your Instagram followers could vote and let you know their choice. That’s exactly what poll stickers do.
It allows you to ask a question and present two options to the viewer. By default, the options are Yes and No, but you can customize them to your needs. Once published, viewers can vote and see the results in real time.
You’ll be able to see the results and how each person voted in the Who viewed your story preferences. You can even share the results on your story.
2. Emoji slider
Another way to see what people think of a story is to use emoji slider stickers. As we know emojis are more attractive and describe our emotions better, using this sticker helps to understand people’s reactions.
By default, this sticker has a heart eye emoji, but you can change it from the emoji panel at the bottom. To do so, tap the emoji after you add this sticker to your story.
Suppose when buying a phone, you are confused between its colors. Simply take a picture of all the color variations and publish separately on your story using the emoji slider on each photo. Viewers will have to drag the slider up or down to show their reactions based on their choices. You’ll be able to see your audience’s reactions in the Who viewed your story preferences.
3. Question stickers
You can use this sticker in two ways — you ask a question and people answer, or let people ask you questions. You can then share the answer on your story. We have detailed question labels, checking out interesting things you might not know about it.

In addition to the cool stickers mentioned above, you can make your story interesting and personal by adding gifs, selfies, meme text, and emojis.
1. Selfie Stickers
If you want to add your photo on top of any image or video in your story, use Instagram’s selfie stickers. On the sticker tray, tap the Camera icon to add it. Then use the capture icon on the screen to take a photo. You can only take pictures from your device’s front camera.
Once taken, resize the captured image with pinch and zoom gestures. You can also change the style of the image by clicking on it. Instagram offers three styles for this sticker.
2. GIF Stickers
Sourced from GIPHY, GIF stickers are animated stickers that you add to your stories. While Instagram shows you trending GIFs, you can use the search feature to find the right GIF for your story. Similar to other stickers, you can change its position and size by dragging it.
3. Sayings and pictures
As you continue to scroll in the sticker window, you will find many popular sayings and images. For example, you have #tbt (Throwback Thursday), Lit, Savage, etc.
4. Emoji Stickers
Furthermore, below the sayings you will find an emoji library. Tap any emoji to add it. The difference between adding them as stickers and adding them as normal emojis is that here you can resize the stickers easily. You can also add multiple emojis.
