7 Best Ways to Fix NVIDIA Control Panel Missing on Windows 10

Gaming laptops with NVIDIA graphics cards come with the NVIDIA Control Panel. A useful app that allows gamers to tweak certain settings based on their preferences. You’ll find it in the desktop’s right-click menu. The trouble starts when you want to change the settings and realize that the NVIDIA Control Panel is missing on your Windows 10 computer.

You can launch the NVIDIA Control Panel via a desktop shortcut or from the Start menu. Just search for it. This problem is surprisingly common, and over the years, users have come up with useful solutions that help solve this problem. Let’s understand what they are and how to apply them.

1. Restart

Here’s what happened to me recently. Graphics card is missing and extension, NVIDIA Control Panel is also missing. I noticed it when I opened the laptop to apply thermal paste and launched ThrottleStop to check the temperature. Thankfully, I restarted my computer before opening the back panel again and it was there.

2. No overclocking

Overclocking GPU often leads to problems like this. I don’t do it, nor do I recommend you do it. I recommend changing the settings back to normal and rebooting before testing again. Overclocking is dangerous, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing.

3. Unhide NVIDIA Control Panel

Step 1: Search and open Control Panel.

You just created a new right-click context menu shortcut for the desktop. The folder above contains all the context menu shortcuts, including the NVIDIA Control Panel now.

I cannot view the above file because I have installed NVIDIA Control Panel from Microsoft Store. It is not pre-installed. If you can’t see it either, read the next point. All is OK. You can still install and launch it directly from the Microsoft Store.

5. Download from Microsoft Store

Have you even installed NVIDIA Control Center on your computer? Many difficult users discover that the software never ships with their Windows 10 installation. You can download it from the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft has released the DCH Driver, which has caused some confusion over the past few months. I recommend going through both the links I shared above for more details. For now, download and stick with the Microsoft Store versions and install them completely if they are missing from your computer.

Note that if you have NVIDIA Control Panel installed, uninstall it using Revo Uninstaller and then reinstall it from the Microsoft Store.

6. Update GPU drivers

You can update or uninstall the drivers and reinstall them to see if that helps. Alternatively, you can also visit NVIDIA’s website to download and install the latest drivers directly. Use an app like CPUZ to find the graphics card model number and other details if you don’t already know.

Note that many gamers recommend using DDU or Display Driver Uninstaller to completely remove NVIDIA drivers before reinstalling.

7. Restart NVIDIA Service

Step 1: Search for and launch the Services app from the Start menu.

Game on

The lockdown is a good opportunity to catch up on all the games we’ve always wanted to play but couldn’t. Gamers love to tweak the settings to perfection, and it’s frustrating when they can’t do so. On a related note, uninstalling the GeForce Experience app has also helped some users. It often gets in the way and has very little to offer.
