4 Ways to Get Share-able Links for Images on Android

Now every Android app and its subsections have a messaging component. And, of course, they allow you to upload and share images. The implementation may not be great, but it’s there. But what if you wanted a little more control over the images you share with people on the internet? What if you wanted them to appear on the web, accessible via a link, instead of just being stuck in an ecosystem. This way you can share the same link with multiple sites or people without having to go through the re-upload process.

If you’re a designer, developer, or just a techie who needs to send screenshots from Android to a lot of people quite often, you know how boring the process can get.

Doing this on the desktop is pretty easy. Install Droplr, CloudApp or just use the web app. Even the Dropbox app lets you create a shareable link for the screenshot. But on Android it’s not so simple. We’ll need to move around this one.

Thankfully, that’s only as hard as installing some new apps and signing up for an account or two.

1. Upload to the cloud

Cloupload is a third-party client for CloudApp, my Mac app of choice for quickly sharing screenshots on the web. The free CloudApp account will allow you to upload 25 images per day with a maximum file size of 2 MB each. Cloupload is at the top of the list because it’s the simplest option. Let me draw a workflow picture for you.

You take a screenshot, swipe down from the notification drawer and tap the . icon Screenshot taken Notification. This brings you to Exhibition room application.

You touch Share button, select cloud upload, and the app starts uploading images in the background. When the upload is complete, you will be notified by a bell and the link to the image will be copied to your clipboard. Now you are free to paste this anywhere you want. It doesn’t get much easier than this.

2. Dropbox

Dropbox’s Android app isn’t made for quick photo sharing, but you can hack your way by using Upload camera feature. It will automatically upload all your camera and screenshots to a folder in Dropbox. It works in the background and is very reliable. Just take a screenshot. Wait 5-15 seconds, depending on your internet connection, and the image will be uploaded to Dropbox. Now all you have to do is tap the image, tap Share icon and Copy path.

I like this option because I can do this even while using my PC, as screenshots from my Android phone sync almost instantly to the PC.

3. Imgur Android

The default Imgur app isn’t really made to quickly upload images and get shareable links, but this third-party app does. It’s a simplified version of Cloupload in which you don’t even need to log in. Of course, you need to feel comfortable when your images are uploaded to Imgur and made public.

Just like Cloupload, go to the image in Exhibition room, fight Shareand touch image the option has a logo that doesn’t quite match Imgur’s. You will be taken to the app, the image will be uploaded and you can tap a button to copy the image link to the clipboard. The app will keep a history of all your uploads.

4.Flickr

Flickr doesn’t have a super-fast way to share images, but it’s great for a slightly different use case – high-resolution photos and the social element. Dropbox and CloudApp can be great for sharing screenshots with your friends, but when it comes to sharing pictures from your latest vacation with family, Flickr is the best choice. The new app has an automatic background upload option like Dropbox (all images are private by default) and you get 1 TB of free storage. Flickr doesn’t compress your images like Facebook does, and the social interaction features are great.

In this case, Google+ Photos is also a worthy candidate.

How do you quickly share photos?

From all the options above, Cloupload is the one that I personally recommend. The CloudApp backend is very powerful and you can access all your uploaded images from the web. Managing uploaded images and deleting them is also easy.
