Google Forms lets you create surveys, polls, and quizzes with ease. That is why it is a popular choice among similar services for polls and surveys. The simple interface means that anyone with a valid Gmail account can create a form or post feedback.
At times, surveyors can get loads of responses, especially if you’ve posted the link on a social media platform like Instagram or Twitter. And analyzing and reviewing all the responses can be a daunting task, especially if it’s a time-bound survey.
So, if you’re looking for a way to limit responses on Google Forms, you’ve come to the right place. In today’s post, we will explore three methods.
While the first method uses a built-in feature, the other two are third-party add-ons.
So without any further hassle, let’s get started.
1. Built-in features
That’s right, Google Forms has a nifty feature that lets you stop accepting responses whenever you want. All you have to do is go to the Feedback tab in your form and turn off the Accept Response switch. Add a message if you want, and that’s it.
The problem with this method is that you have to manually turn off the switch every time a form reaches a certain threshold. Not to mention the time wasted while tracking the number of entries.
Thankfully, the following add-ons easily solve the problems.
2. FormLimiter
The appropriately named formLimiter add-on brings a lot of customization to the humble ‘Accept Response’ switch of Google Forms. With it, you can limit the number of responses and specify a date and time after which the form will stop accepting responses. Convenient, right?
Similar to other add-ons, installing formLimiter is very simple. When you open a form, tapping the three-dot button in the upper right corner and selecting Add-ons will open the window for Add-ons.
Now, search for Form Limiter, click the Plus button and grant the necessary permissions.
To limit responses, create your form, click the Add-ons button, and select fromLimiter. Next, choose the limit type.
If you want to stop accepting responses after a certain time, the date and time is optional. Else, choose the second one.
Next, add the number of days (or date & time), add the message, and submit the form. Also, check your email preferences.
It’s a simple trick that will let you know when the limit has been reached, thus saving you time on checking responses.
Once the form has exceeded the limit, the user will see an automatic response, such as the one below.
The best thing about formLimiter is that it doesn’t require a separate login. It’s simple, easy to use, and you can easily turn it off when you don’t need it.
3. Control acceptance of feedback
Yep, that’s the name of the add-on. This one goes a step further than formLimiter and allows you to add the start time of a test or survey. For instance, if you want the survey to take place in two days, this add-on will let you do that.
In addition, it has the usual features like adding an end date, time or number of submissions.
To use this add-on, activate it via the Add-ons icon. Now, uncheck the ‘Start Now’ checkbox and enter the date and time you want the survey or quiz to start. Also, add Stop criteria and a custom message if you want. Once done, hit the Save and Done button.
4. Timify.me
Timify.me works on a different kind of limit – Time. That’s right, this little add-on sets a timer on your Google Forms and is useful when preparing small time-limited quizzes or quizzes.
However, Timify.me does not follow the same steps as the two add-ons above. It has its own interface, and when you activate the add-on (on a specific form), the same form will show up on Timify’s interface.
The good news is that Timify.me allows you to create custom links for your users. And all links can only be used once, thus helping you to eliminate duplicate forms. More importantly, you can customize the start and end screens, making your form look more professional and clean.
To use it, first create a form according to your requirements. Once done, tap the Widgets button, choose Timify.me > Configure, and check the Enable Widget box.
After that, open the dashboard and you will see your recently created form on the left panel. Next, select Create Link and enter the names of your participants. If this seems cumbersome, you can enter respondents from another form.
Once you have entered the time, press the Create button. You will see custom links next to all the names.
Now, all you need to do is share the links with your respondents. They will see a timer at the top of their screen.
Get the most out of Google Forms
There are some limitations that prove to be extremely useful when creating forms for event registration or school/college quizzes. Throw a theme into the mix and you can draw your forms in a whole new way.
