You accidentally made your Twitter account private and now you don’t know how to unprotect your tweets? You have come to the right destination. In this post, we will tell you how to unprotect tweets on Android, iPhone and PC.
Making your Twitter account public is just one way to not protect your tweets. If your tweets cannot be seen by others even if your account is public, you may have restricted tweets to only your Circles or blocked that user. Do not worry. We have covered all the methods to unprotect your tweets on Twitter.
1. How to make your Tweet public
To unprotect your protected tweets, you must make your Twitter account public. Check out how to unlock your Twitter account on mobile and PC.
Unprotect Tweets on PC
Step 1: Open the Twitter website on your PC and log in to your account.
Step 2: Click the More option in the left sidebar.
Step 3: Expand Settings and Support and select Settings and privacy.
Step 4: Go to Privacy & Safety, then Audience Tagging.
Step 5: Now, uncheck the box next to Protect your tweets.
Unprotect Tweets on Android and iPhone
Step 1: Open the Twitter app on Android or iPhone.
Step 2: Tap the profile icon at the top to open the navigation menu.
Step 3: Tap Settings & Support, then Settings & Privacy.
Step 4: Tap Privacy and Safety option, then Audience and Tagging.
Step 5: Turn off the switch next to Protect your Tweets to unprotect tweets.
What happens when you make your Twitter account public
When you make your twitter account public by turning off Protect your tweets, the following will happen:
- The Lock icon will be removed from your profile.
- All your previously protected tweets will become public and anyone can view them.
- Any new tweets will be made public.
- Now anyone can retweet and quote your tweets.
- Your tweets will start appearing in search results.
- When your Twitter account is private, you must review pending follow requests. Making your Twitter public will not automatically accept those requests. You will have to accept those requests manually or the person will need to follow you back and they will be automatically accepted since your account is now public.

2. Change Tweet Audience
To be precise, Twitter has another privacy setting for tweets called Twitter Circle that allows you to tweet to a smaller group of people up to 150 people. If you tweet with the audience selected as your Circle, only those added to the Circle will be able to see those tweets.
To unprotect tweets and to tweet to people instead of your Twitter Circle, you must change the audience of your tweets.
Change the audience of Tweets on PC
Step 1: Open the Twitter website on your computer.
Step 2: Click on the What’s going box, ie the area where you write your tweets.
Step 3: Click the Twitter Circles drop-down box and select People from audience.
Now your tweets can be seen by all followers and even non-followers if your account is public.
Change the audience of Tweets on Android and iPhone
Step 1: Open the Twitter mobile app on your phone.
Step 2: Tap the floating (+) icon and select Tweet from the menu.
Step 3: Tap the Twitter Circles button and select Public (or Everyone).
Step 4: Enter your tweet and publish it normally. That’s it. The tweet can be seen by everyone now.
3. Unblock users
Another reason someone might not be able to see your tweets is that you may have blocked that user. When you block someone on Twitter, they can’t see your tweets and similarly, you can’t see their tweets either. Check out how to unblock users to not protect your tweets from them.
