Martin Brodeur is a Canadian–American former professional ice hockey goaltender, current team executive and a businessman. He was selected 20th overall pick by the New Jersey Devils in the 1990 NHL draft, and went on to spend 21 out of 22 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He has one season with the St. Louis Blues before he announced his retirement. Over the course of his illustrious career, Brodeur won numerous awards and accolades, including three Stanley Cup championships, five Eastern Conference championships, and two Olympic gold medals with Team Canada. With several NHL and franchise records among fellow goaltenders, he was named by the league as one of the “100 Greatest NHL Players” as well as being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Brodeur began playing hockey at a young age. He played initially as a forward before making a transition to become a goaltender when his coach at the time asked if he’d want to be goalie. At age 12, he decided to quit playing hockey, after his name was not added to his team team sheet for a game. His older brother Claude intervene and talked him out of that decision. He spent some time at a camp oversaw by retired Soviet goaltender Vladislav Tretiak, whose training he claims made him “a student of the game.”

During the 1989-90 season, Brodeur played for the Saint-Hyacinthe Laser and made it to the Quebec Major Junior League. He achieved instant success, finishing the career and making the QMJHL All-Rookie te am and was drafted in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils.

Brodeur signed for the Devils, playing mostly with the Saint-Hyacinthe in the QMJHL and had cameos in the NHL when there were injuries to New Jersey goaltenders Chris Terreri and Craig Billington. He made his debut in a 4 -2 win against Boston Bruins.

In the 1992-93 season, he played in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Utica Devils. After the season, Brodeur permanently joined the New Jersey and won the Calder Trophy for the best rookie in the NHL.

Brodeur went on to have a 22 seasons career in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played 21 out of the 22 seasons with the New Jersey Devils, winning three Stanley Cup championships and five Eastern Conference championships as well as two gold medals and other medals with Team Canada.

Upon ending his career, held multiple NHL and franchise records in his position. He is the league’s all-time regualr season leader in wins (691), losses (397), shutouts (125), and games played (1,266). Consider one of the best goaltenders, Brodeur was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
