Who is Mark Violets? The Alleged Trump Shooter

On Saturday, Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally.

He survived with a graze on his ear, and said this on Truth Social, “I knew immediately that something was wrong”.

“I heard a whizzing sound and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin”.

News quickly spread on 𝕏, with claims made about the identity of the shooter.

An 𝕏 user @Moussolinho tweeted and claimed that “Mark Violets”, a rabid Antifa member was the shooter.

However, this claim is false and the shooter has been identified as Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old man, who was shot dead at the scene.

His tweet stated, “BREAKING: According to the Butler Police Department the #Trump shooter has been arrested at the scene and has been identified as Mark Violets, a rabid antifa member”.

Followed by, “Before the attack, he uploaded a video on YouTube claiming justice was coming”.

The tweet went viral and multiple news sources believed it before it was taken down.

@Moussolinho, the troller responsible for the tweet is an avid football fan of the Italian football league, Serie A.

If you’re unaware why Calcio Twitter is goated.Someone tweeted about “Marco Violi” a Roma fan YouTuber to make him look like Trump’s shooter.Called him Mark Violets instead.Every American account ran with it without fact checking.Even the 🇺🇸 TV.And the rest is history. pic.twitter.com/NaL83aYooo

@Manora23 tweeted about the absurdity of the claim, suggesting the Italian football league, Serie A, is far superior to any other football league.

“EPL can’t produce something like Mark Violets in their wildest trolling dreams”.

They claim that the English Premier League (EPL) cannot match the level of trolling or humorous incidents that happen in Serie A.

This is a reference to “Mark Violets” which alludes to the particular trolling incident by @Moussolinho.

@Moussolinho tweeted about a Roma fan YouTuber named Marco Violi, attempting to falsely link him to being Donald Trump’s shooter (a ridiculous and fabricated claim).

After the incorrect tweet was posted, many American Twitter accounts spread the misinformation without verifying its accuracy.

This misinformation was even picked up by American television, demonstrating a lack of fact-checking.

The victim of the troll has a YouTube channel called Roma Giallorossa TV and his 𝕏 account is @lorenzrulez, which is now private.

He is not responsible for the failed assassination attempt as he is just a random Italian football commentator.

The “Mark Violets” people are claiming is the man who tried to kill Trump is some Italian guy who appears to be live tweeting right now stating he’s not the shooter. pic.twitter.com/8tx1lTqay9

— Chris Menahan 🇺🇸 (@infolibnews) July 13, 2024

The photo of the man was a screenshot from one of @lorenzrulez’s previous livestreams.

In the livestream, he was wearing sunglasses and a beanie and seemed overweight.

Trump’s shooter, Matthew Crooks, had long hair and skinny stature and did not look like “Mark Violets”.

In summary, the claim that “Mark Violets” was the shooter is completely false and fabricated for the sole purpose of trolling.
