Who is Gautam Gambhir?
On 14 October 1981, a star was born into a Punjabi Hindu Khatri family New Delhi, India to Deepak Gambhir and Seema Gambhir. He was named Gautam Gambhir by his parents. He has a younger sister Ekta Gambhir.
His father, Deepak Gambhir manages a textiles business while his mother is a housewife. Just eighteen days after his birth, Gautam’s maternal grandparents adopted him. He lived with them and they were responsible for raising him.
Gautam’s interest and love for cricket began at a very young age just like the many stars before him. By 10, he had already playing and taking lessons with the help of his uncle, Pawan Gulati whom he labels his mentor.
He attended Modern School in New Delhi but failed to graduate as his attention was more on becoming a cricketer.

In his two seasons career with the Delhi Daredevils, he put in some very impressive performances. Before his services were acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders, he was named in the 2008 ESPNcricinfo IPL XI.
From 2011 to 2017, Gautam played for his new employers the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. who purchased him for US$2.4 million in the 2011 IPL player auction. He became the highest paid cricket in IPL history.
He won two IPL titles with the Kolkata Knight Riders during his time. As the captain of the side, he led his team by example, playing at the highest level in each game. Gambhir was named captain of the ESPNcricinfo IPL XI in 2012 and 2017 ESPNcricinfo and Cricbuzz IPL XI.
Gambhir made a return to his former employers, the Delhi Daredevils during the 2018 IPL Auction and ended his career where he started. He played that season with the team and announced his retirement on 3 December 2018.
Gambhir ventured into politics after saying his goodbyes to all forms of cricket. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019, contested for the Lok Sahba in East Delhi which he won. Since 2014, he has resigned from politics to focus again on cricket.
