Frazier studied at Stephen D. Lee High School now in the Columbus Municipal School District where he graduated and was a basketball, baseball, and football player. After high school, he attended Alcorn State University, where he took part in football playing and lined up in the defensive secondary alongside Roynell Young.
Frazier was born into the family as the eldest son. He has two younger siblings, who are all brothers. Frazier together with his siblings was brought up by his grandmother.
Specializing in defensive backs coaching, he spent time with the Eagles and Colts, before moving to Minnesota for the same role.
Frazier was a part of the 1985 Chicago Bears team that won Super Bowl XX. During the 1985 championship season, Frazier led the team with six interceptions. His playing career was cut short due to a knee injury he suffered returning a punt in the second quarter of the Super Bowl. He was also a member of the “G Crew” in “The Super Bowl Shuffle”.
On January 3, 2011, the Vikings and Frazier reached an agreement making him the permanent head coach. In his first season as head coach, the rebuilding Vikings went 3–13, their worst season since 1984. On December 5, 2011, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf stated Frazier would return in 2012.
Frazier and his wife, Gale, have three children: Kieron, Chantel and Corey, who played defensive back at Rice. Inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.
