What is ‘1080p Premium Advanced Bitrate’ on YouTube
Simply put, YouTube is offering an improved 1080p version of its service. The improvement comes in the form of enhanced bit rates. Now, you might be thinking, what is the bitrate on video and how important is it?
While a video’s resolution implies the number of pixels present in the video’s frame, other factors play a major role in video quality. One of these is called the bit rate. Bit rate is defined as the number of bits transferred between source and destination in one second. In the case of videos, it’s the total video data in bits that YouTube transmits to you every second.
1080p vs Premium 1080p: What’s the Difference
The faster the data transfer rate, the better the video quality. 1080p video with a high bitrate is generally better quality than a 4K video with a relatively slower bitrate. You may have come across different formats of 1080p – such as 1080p Blu-Ray streaming at 40Mbps bitrate. For reference, most YouTube videos play at a bitrate of 8-10Mbps.
In its official documentation, YouTube claims that 1080p Premium offers ‘sharper and better-looking’ video quality than 1080p Premium. But apart from such adjectives, we get no further information about the details of the enhanced bitrate. However, we did notice a slight increase in video quality between 1080p and 1080p Premium with Enhanced Bitrate on YouTube.

Requirements for Youtube 1080p Premium
Increased data rates mean increased costs for YouTube. Therefore, YouTube wants you to pay to access this feature. Therefore, this feature is only available to YouTube Premium subscribers.
