There are various tools to help you take screenshots. If you’re using one of them, great. However, if your screen capture needs are fairly simple and you don’t have a third-party tool installed for this purpose, then you can start with the built-in Windows Snipping tool (in Windows 7 and Vista).
While Windows provides an option to capture the screen with the print screen button, it’s not an easy way to do it. Much better snipping tool.
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the snipping tool can be used to take a screenshot of a small portion of the window or the entire screen. Here are the steps to open and operate it.
Step 1: Click the Windows start button. In the search box, type “snipping tool”. Open search results by clicking on it.
Step 2: When you click the “new” button, it will show some options. The Snipping tool provides four options for taking screenshots. Freeform shots, rectangle shots, window shots, and full screen shots. Free-form snip is a really cool option that helps you take screenshots hands-free.
Click any option and highlight the area of the screen you want to capture by dragging the mouse pointer. The crop tool will take a screenshot and open it immediately in the inbuilt editor.
There is an options panel available too. There are many choices offered by it. Like you can choose whether the selection ink (border color) appears after taking the cropped image. In addition, there is an option to show the icon on the quick launch toolbar.

Cut the window
Take a screenshot of the entire window. Just put your mouse over the window and it will create a red border around it which means your window is selected. Now click on the window to take a screenshot.
free form snip
The coolest option available in the snipping tool is Free form snip. You can take a freehand screenshot of a small area with the mouse. You can draw any random shape with the mouse pointer.
cut rectangle
Crop rectangle mode can be used to take a screenshot of a small rectangular area anywhere on the screen.
Crop Tool Editor
The Snipping Tool Editor provides a variety of tools for image editing, such as a pen tool, a highlighter tool, and an eraser tool. In addition to these editing tools, there is also an option to send images to others by mail. When you click on the image, you will be redirected to Microsoft Outlook.
You can save images in PNG, JPG, GIF format.
Overall, it’s a great tool to quickly take screenshots. Definitely useful if you take screenshots from time to time and don’t need advanced features.
