Windows comes with the right set of tools that really help you optimize your machine’s performance and efficiency. Very few that I can count
Disk Cleanup
Disk Defragmenter and
System recovery
. A large list that resides as part of
Accessories-> System Tools
and if you know how to use all of them, you probably won’t need any third party tools.
Check Disk is a tool that many people don’t know about, although it is one of the oldest error checking tools in the Windows arsenal. It comes with every version of Windows and has great potential to keep your hard drive fit. It helps you to scan your system/drive for file system errors and bad sectors. Furthermore, it tries to fix and solve problems that lie within its domain.
Things like invalid or corrupted file names and dates, bad sectors, and crosslinks are targeted in each scan. And today we will tell you how you can perform or schedule such a scan.

Steps to schedule a scan
Check Disk is a simple GUI operation. Follow the steps below:-
Step 1: Select the drive you want to scan and execute Property options via right click or from toolbar explorer.
Step 2: Choose Tools tab and tap Check now. A dialog box with two check boxes will appear to let you choose the scan type.
Step 3: I recommend you to choose both options to do the official scan. Just check for file errors, you can choose the first option. Fight Begin when decided.
Step 4: If the drive is in use, your scan will not start immediately. You can schedule the activity to start automatically the next time you reboot your machine.
Do it the command line way
Very few people choose to do it via the command line. However, there are a few things that can be helpful. You can perform a short check (read-only) scan to show errors but not fix them even if your disk is in use.
The command for it is chkdsk while the same command to cancel the scheduled scan would be chkntfs /x . The list of switches that you can apply using the command is listed below. You can open it on your machine with the command chkdsk \?.
Conclusion
Managing Windows can become really easy and fun if you know how to use the default tools. Check Disk is one of the native Windows utilities that you should use when you find your computer is regularly running slow for no reason.
