Al Green birthed as Albert Leornes Greene is an American singer, songwriter, pastor, and record producer best known for a string of soul hit singles in the early 1970s, including “Take Me to the River”, “Tired of Being Alone”, “I’m Still in Love with You”, “Love and Happiness”, and his signature song, “Let’s Stay Together”.

In 1995, Green w as inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He was described as “one of the most gifted purveyors of soul music” on the museum’s website. Linda Wills, Green’s former secretary, brought a $25,000 civil suit against him in 1974. Wills said Green assaulted her and slammed her through a glass door at his Memphis office after a disagreement over how much back pay she was due for her duties. The civil complaint was abandoned due to “conflicting testimony,” but they paid a $100,000 assault and battery claim in 1975.

On Memorial Day in 1977, Green and his former organist Larry Robinson were arrested for assault in Irving, Texas. Green and his goons, according to Robinson, jumped him when he challenged Green about money owing from past engagements. They were both released after posting bond on a misdemeanor charge.
