Tekken 8 player, avatar & character customisation explained

Tekken 8 customisation allows you to change the looks of your characters, your avatar, and your player info. Tekken is known for some wacky customisation options, with plenty of freedom to create the right attire for you.

Customisation in this game has changed a bit from Tekken 7, but many of the options players know and love are back. Here is everything you need to know about customisation in T8.

Character customisation

Thankfully, the move to Unreal Engine 5 did not leave character customisation in the past. In Tekken 8, you can completely change the outfits of all of the fighters in the game, with different clothes and accessories to choose from. If you enjoyed customising characters in Tekken 7, many of the same items and options are back.

There is one downside, though. Likely due to some technical limitations, you cannot customise the base outfit of a character. For example, in Tekken 7 you could customise King and change his tights to another lower-body option, or add some upper-body clothes, and the rest of his outfit would remain intact. Now in Tekken 8, if you go to put a t-shirt on King, it will remove the rest of his outfit and replace it with basic customisable clothes.

Essentially, this means your characters can either wear one of their full-body outfits or an outfit made up of customisable clothing, you cannot mix and match. Some characters do have elements of their outfits available as customisable items, but for the most part, you will have to choose one or the other.

This means character customisation is slightly less dynamic than before, but you still have a wealth of options to choose from. There are dozens of upper-body, lower-body, hair, hats, glasses, and accessory items that you can equip. Unfortunately, if you like a character’s base outfit and just want to add or change something, you might not be able to do so.

Avatar customisation

This is a new feature in Tekken 8, pertaining to Arcade Quest, Super Ghost Battle, and the Fighting Lounge. For these new modes, you create an avatar to play as and that avatar is completely customisable. The options are different from the character customisation options, but there is a bit of crossover.

You have similar options for your hair, glasses, upper and lower body clothing, shoes, and so on. There is a bit more freedom when customising your avatar as you get to start from scratch, so be sure to make the one that speaks to you.

Player customisation

This section allows you to customise things like your health bar and your player data background, also you can add a title and a background for that. These options are purely flair much like the others, but many of them are unlocked by making progress in the game and achieving high ranks.

As such, you can show off a bit if you have a fancy gold health bar or a title that takes a lot of work to unlock. Be sure to check this section as you progress to see what new items are available to you. Also, you can enable or disable the magic mirror here, which can prevent opponents from attacking you after a round is over.
