Stormzy Gives Sincere Explanation As To Why He Deleted His Twitter And Instagram Pages

Stormzy

has explained why he deleted his Instagram and Twitter accounts two years ago.

The ‘Know Me From’ rapper abruptly and inexplicably erased two of his social media accounts in February 2020.

The move came the day after he became the first person to get a Greggs Black card.

While it’s possible that Stormzy, real name Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr, was simply too busy munching on steak bakes or devouring yum-yums to attend to the platforms, the musician has since spoken out about why he quit social media and how he’s been feeling since.

Stormzy revealed that he had a European tour’straight after’ coming off social media in February.

As part of the tour, he played in front of ‘approximately 15,000 people’ at an arena event in Denmark.

“We done the show and I came off stage and I remember one of my first feelings was getting the clip of us to put on social media but I didn’t have social media. I remember it being a weird feeling.

“Because that’s what I would normally do anytime I’ve done something great, I’m gonna show everyone. And I remember thinking in that moment, ‘That’s ego, that’s ego. That’s probably validation’.”

The rapper described the incident as a “big lesson” in terms of “what ego is and how you gotta kill ego.”

“I think that was probably my biggest moment of it. Because what is it that I’m trying to gain? Because that happened in real life,” he pondered.

Stormzy opted to delete his two sites due to the volatile nature of social media and the usage of it to promote one’s own ego.

He added: “It was a big turning point for me in understanding that there is an ego in man I need to kill because look how blessed we are.”

While Stormzy acknowledged to partially deleting his Instagram and Twitter accounts in order to avoid feeding his own ego, he also admitted to deleting the profiles in order to isolate himself from “noise” and feel “normal.”

“Whether it’s noise on the internet, noise in reality, or noise in events,” the singer concluded.

“I’ll just make conscious decisions to avoid being around noise.” Because I believe that noise prevents me from being normal.

“Because there’s something abnormal about me consuming noise and energy all the time.” So I believe a degree of isolation is required.”

The musician also stated that he is’very keen on reserving [his] right to be a human’.

“I always say that whoever Stormzy the artist is, the world will drag that to whoever they want or wherever they want that person to be,” he said.

“There’s a man in there who needs to stay in front of the artist.”
